The Department of Posts on Tuesday announced it is organizing ‘DhaiAkhar’, a National Letter Writing Competition, on the topic ‘The Joy of Writing: The Importance of Letters in the Digital Age.’
Postmaster General of the North Gujarat Region, Ahmedabad Krishna Kumar Yadav, said, “All schools and colleges can collaborate with the Department of Posts to organize this event. Participants will be required to write a letter expressing their thoughts, addressed to the Chief Postmaster General, Gujarat Circle, Ahmedabad-380001 with full name, address, date of birth, mobile number and name of the school. Selected letters in this competition will be eligible for prizes ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000. The last date for submission is December 14, 2024.”
Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav said that people of any age can participate in ‘DhaiAkhar’ letter writing competition. The first category will be up to 18 years and the second will be above 18 years of age. Letter will be accepted only in an inland letter or in envelope issued by the Department of Posts, in which letter can be written by hand in English, Hindi or any regional language in 500 and 1,000 words respectively.
Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav informed that three prizes each in different 4 categories will be given to the winners of the competition at the Circle and National levels. Best letter selected at the Circle (State) will be given prizes of ₹25,000/-, ₹10,000/- and ₹5,000/- in the first, second and third category, respectively. Prizes of ₹50,000/-, ₹25,000/- and ₹10,000/-will be given to the best letters selected at National level in first, second and third category respectively. Overall, prizes worth Rs. 40.20 lakhs will be given to the winners across the country. For more information, participants can contact the Superintendents of their respective Divisions and the Postmasters of the Head Post offices.

The DhaiAkhar Campaign not only promotes the art of letter writing but also fosters creativity, critical thinking, and empathy among participants.”
PMG KK Yadav further added that handwriting is a foundational skill that can influence students’ reading, writing, language use, and critical thinking. It has an important role in brain development. It is necessary to teach children to write, alongside technology in the classroom, as it promotes success in other academic subjects.
