Stating that design, architecture and arts are the most critical disciplines required to build any modern nation. With these three essentials, India is poised to dominate the global supply chain and provide an alternative to China, said Padma Bhushan N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, here on Friday.
He was speaking at the Fourth Convocation of Anant National University (AnantU), India’s first DesignX university.
In his pep talk to the graduating students, N Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, said, “You have the opportunity, and you need to nurture certain qualities to be able to play the role that you are capable of playing. First, I would say you need to develop a purpose & you need to develop a dream. It is essential because we do not fully recognise our true potential. Each one of us is capable of much more than what we think we can do. I just remembered a quote from Bhagwad Gita that goes like this when translated into English: We are kept from our goals not by obstacles but by having a clear path to lesser goals”.

“I think you are in a unique place, and this institute has touched upon some of the key skills required because I believe design, architecture and arts are the most critical disciplines required to build any modern nation. As I said, the future trends, be it sustainability or climate change or customer experience, in other words, design. I call it the right to the left way of building products,” he added.
Dwelling at length on the economic growth of the country, N Chandrasekaran said, “India is poised to dominate the global supply chain and provide an alternative to China for the world. India is not only going to become the third-largest economy in the world in the years to come, but the country will also surpass the $5-trillion economy target soon. India’s infrastructure as well as domestic and export growth-led economy will increase the per capita income beyond $2,000 in the coming years.”
Ajay Piramal, President Anant National University & Chairman of Piramal Group, commented, “I believe that for youth who love to solve complex issues, there is today no field which is as exciting as the built environment. The education that we offer at AnantU addresses most of these problems. As you may have experienced, we are training our students to become solutionaries. We are training them to build a sustainable world through their practice of design, architecture, and climate change & our training is unique & impactful because it is built on experiential engagements & activities. Community Connect is the bedrock of our pedagogy because we believe that effective & impactful design is not possible without experiencing & understanding the challenges faced by the community. We train our students to design solutions that benefit the community even during challenging times.”
Adding further, Dr Anunaya Chaubey, Provost, Anant National University, said, “We have been successful in achieving 87% placement across the disciplines where in Interaction Design and Transdisciplinary Design recruitment is 100% despite being the first graduating batch in 2022.
