The Directorate of Employment and Training (DET) has teamed up with Quest Alliance to unveil a pioneering initiative aimed at enhancing the capabilities of principals within Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). This collaboration has resulted in the launch of the Principal Leadership Programme. It is for the first time in the last ten years that a comprehensive professional development programme has been planned for Institute Leaders in ITIs in Gujarat.
Commencing in three distinct cohorts during the months of August and September, the third and the last cohort is scheduled to end on 27 September and a total of 100 principals have been trained in total.
The Principal Leadership Program aims to help principals to critically introspect about the impact they intend to bring in their Institute and make it future ready. To complete the program, all participating principals have to identify a change project and implement it in their ITI over a period of four to six months.
The principals are expected to take up change projects and see it through from conceptualisation to implementation. Using real-life experiences, principals will initiate change projects on various aspects, such as creating student hubs, strengthening placement cells, increasing enrollment of women, increasing industry engagements and prioritizing students’ safety.
Gargi Jain IAS, Director, Directorate of Employment of Training said the expected outcomes of this programme are – to build a strong network of principals who would be open to peer learning, and to develop knowledge of the self-learning framework and its implementation, making their ITIs self-learning hubs. “We are happy to partner with Quest Alliance and work towards a common goal of building a strong network of principals who are open to peer learning,” she added.
Explaining about the importance of this programme, Nikita Bengani, Director, Youth Program, Quest Alliance said, “As an institute head, the principal holds an overarching role of a leader, facilitator, aggregator and a visionary. As part of the principal leadership program, leaders embark on a journey of self reflection, vision building, change management, impact assessment towards making their ITIs a thriving place to learn for young people .”
The Principal Leadership Programme has successfully been implemented by Quest Alliance in numerous states, benefiting an impressive number of ITI principals nationwide.
