THANJAVUR, MAY 14

An old devotee, participating in a fire walking ceremony in Thanjavur, slipped and fell on the fire pit, resulting in several burns. He was rushed to the Kumbakonam government hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

A festival was underway in the Maha Mariyamman temple at Pandanallur village in Thanjavur district. As a part of the events, a fire walking ceremony was organised on a large pit where thousands of devotees walk across the pit yearly.

The firewalk event was conducted on Friday, May 13. Several devotees even carried children on their shoulders while walking across the pit. Bhuminathan, a 54-year-old man from Serukadambur, unfortunately slipped and fell on the pit while crossing it and sustained severe burns.

Bhuminathan was rescued by volunteers and then taken to Kumbakonam Government hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
