The Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL), a power distribution company in South Gujarat, has commenced the installation of smart prepaid meters in Surat. As part of the ongoing smart metering rollout in Gujarat, a smart electricity meter was installed at the residence of Mukesh Patel, Minister of Forest and Environment, Climate Change, Water Resources, and Water Supply, and MLA from Olpad Assembly constituency in Surat.

This installation was carried out in the presence of officials from DGVCL, RECPDCL and IntelliSmart Infrastructure—the key stakeholders leading the smart metering rollout in the region under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Mukesh Patel expressed his full support for the initiative and highlighted the importance of adopting smart technology in the power sector. “Smart meters are a crucial step towards building a transparent, efficient, and consumer-centric electricity ecosystem. I urge citizens to welcome this progressive change for a better tomorrow,” he stated.
The smart metering initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce AT&C losses, and empower consumers with real-time data and improved billing accuracy.
