Aiming to catch the young and budding artists fascinated with ‘Abstract Art’ and want to learn more about abstract expressionism, an Ahmedabad-based arts promoter has compiled and brought out a book on ‘Maestro of Abstract Art – Ratan Parimoo’ and holds exhibition.
This book titled ‘Ratan Parimoo The Conductor’ is a tribute to Ratan Parimoo’s courage as a painter, teacher, author, art historian, museum director, surveyor, a supportive husband and a devoted father.
The book titled ‘Ratan Parimoo The Conductor’, written by Chaitya Dhvani Shah, Curator and Author of DRS Art Company, was released at Sapath 1 Building, SG Highway, Ahmedabad. Ratan Parimoo, author Chaitya Dhvani Shah and editor Tuli Banerjee.
Speaking with navjeevanexpress.com, author Chaitya Dhanvi Shah said, “The remarkable thing about the launch of the book is that something that has not been seen anywhere so far will be seen here. Documentation of the artist’s 70-year- old works will be seen with the book. Moreover people will get an idea about art education. Also they will understand the art, thought process of the artist and information about the artist, his childhood etc.”
Ratan Parimoo is one of the major art historians and painters of modern India. He was for a long time professor of Art History at the M.S. University in Vadodara. Ratan Parimoo was one of the founder members of Baroda Group. His paintings are included in the collection of India’s National Gallery of Modern Art.
This book compares art historian Ratan Parimoo to the conductor of a symphony and illustrates how he expresses his feelings through colours and brush strokes on the medium. The book gives an insight into Parimoo’s life, his thought process, and also showcases 120+ artworks by the artist that have been collectively documented for the first time ever, Shah added.
Shah, an award winning, diversely-experienced art curator, art writer, photographer, and art entrepreneur from Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Chaitya is also the curator and managing director of DRS Arts Company, one of India’s leading arts companies that promotes, curates, conserves, researches and sells finest forms of India-based arts, hosts museum-quality shows, produces top-notch artist monologues and art books in addition to seeking out new talent and showcasing known artists.
Shah took over eight months to compile the art works of the Maestro and writing. The book was edited by senior journalist of Gujarat Tuli Banerjee and the illustration by Nishi Chaitya Shah over a period of four months.
This 282 page book in English is priced at Rs 2,500 and available online from leading e-commerece platforms as well as DRS Arts.
Kindle edition of the book is also available for tech-savvy youngsters.
The exhibition will be open daily from 4 to 7 pm and will be closed on Sundays.
