Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax R Ravichandran on Thursday announced the Direct Tax net collection crossed the Rs 1 lakh crores mark during the FY 2022-23. The Net Collection this year was Rs 1,08,364 crores and the growth rate was 20.20%. This is the third consecutive year that the Budget Target was achieved. During the FY 2022-23, the original and revised target fixed was Rs 1,08,200 crores and Rs1,05,300 crores, respectively. In spite of large refunds of Rs 16,050 crores which registered growth of 41%, Budget Targets were achieved and surpassed.

R Ravichandran said the TDS collections during the FY 2022-23 was Rs 59,887.60 crores with the growth rate of 24.85%. TDS enforcement actions by way of surveys was done which are 92 in number with Rs 159.52 crores / Rs 78.51 crores as tax default ascertained and collected respectively.
In order to educate the TDS provisions and compliance, 134 outreach programmes were conducted. To educate, facilitate and know the grievances of the tax deductors, 7 Corporate Connect Programmes were also conducted,
During the FY pamphlets /manuals were released and distributed in local language Tamil to help small and medium tax deductors. During the FY2022-23, courts passed orders of conviction in 7 cases for various tax defaults. In this week, one order of conviction has been passed.
Thiruvalluvar statue installed in the regional headquarters
In tune with the vision and ambition of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman that giving importance to the local culture, tradition and heritage, Thiruvalluvar statue was installed in the regional headquarters. The oldest Income tax Building (100 years) in this Region in Karaikudi was renovated and is being converted into a Tax Museum, the first of its kind in the country.

500 plus Residential quarters were constructed for IT employees in 4 towers- Kondrai, Vaagai, Kaanthal and Kaanchi – in Nandavanam, Anna Nagar in Chennai and were inaugurated by the Finance Minister.
To augument the infrastructural facilities for the TN & Puducherry region, new office Buildings were constructed and opened in Tiruvannamalai and Nagercoil.

As a part of the Harit Aayakar initiation, to increase green cover and environment protection, 2 micro-forests and 1 medicinal herbs garden were put in place.

In addition to service to society by way of tax collection, the Officers and officials contributed for the renovation of 2 Govt Schools in rural Erode and funds were provided to a few orphanages. Furniture and computers were refurbished and donated to the needy children.
