In India, there are currently 68 million people with visual impairment and also has the largest diabetic patients, especially Gujarat.. Preventing sight loss with early detection and treatment for eye conditions like cataracts and myopia is vital to their life. Being the pioneers in eye care in Gujarat with century old service, Diva Eye Institute, a centre of excellence which provides state-of-the-art, comprehensive eye care under one roof, on Wednesday celebrated World Sight Day 2023.
World Sight day is an annual event which is celebrated on 2nd Thursday of October each year, and this year it falls on Thursday, 12th October, 2023, to raise awareness about vision impairment and blindness around the world. The primary goal of this day is also to draw attention to global eye health issues and promote eye health as a basic human right. The day also talks about access to quality eye care services, the prevention of blindness, and the treatment of eye conditions.
While celebrating the World Sight Day 2023, Dr Dipan Desai – MS (Ophth) | FSVH (Germany), Cataract, Refractive, Glaucoma, Squint, Medical Retina Expert, Honorary Ophthalmic Surgeon, Past Chairman – Scientific Committee, Gujarat Ophthalmic Society and Director of Diva Eye Institute, said, “For the last 100 years and for over 4 generations, we at Diva Eye Institute have spared no effort to ensure that this is one of the best centres for eye care in the state of Gujarat. Stating that prevention is better than cure, Dr Dipan Desai, said, “The first and foremost eye-check-up ought to be conducted for children as early as at the age of 3 and in rural areas have to play their vital role in deduction of vision impairment. With the advancement in ophthalmology, this will help in getting better eye care. Gujarat is the diabetic capital of the country. We urge them all to maintain their vision by undertaking physical exercises like walking for 30 minutes a day and regular check-up for diabetic retinopathy. In a nutshell, vision loss is preventable and not recoverable.”
