Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam President M.K. Stalin inaugurated the signature campaign against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Population Registry (NPR) and National Register of Citizens (NRC) here on Sunday.
Stalin inaugurated the campaign in Kolathur in Chennai urging withdrawal and not to implement CAA, NPR, and NRC in Tamilnadu.
The campaign by DMK and allies begins simultaneously across the state on Sunday. It has been planned to get signature from one crore people till February 8 and later submitted to the President of India.
The campaign was spearheaded by TNCC President K.S. Alagiri in Avadi, Dravidar Kazhagam President K. Veeramani in Kumbakonam, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi President Thirumavalavan in Cuddalore, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko in Chennai Port Trust and Senior CPI leader R. Nallakkannu in Saidapet.
Campaign in Coimbatore
The campaign in Coimbatore was inaugurated by the senior CPI (M) leader G. Ramakrishna in the presence of DMK in-charge of Greater Coimbatore and MLA N. Karthick near the Periyar Statue in Gandhipuram.
Congress senior leader Mayura S. Jayakumar and former DMK Minister Pongalur Palanisamy and leaders of the alliance parties of DMK were present.
