A healthy heart rarely announces its distress with a warning bell. That is why prevention, early detection and the ability to recognise the first signs can make all the difference. Driving home this message, the Bald Eagle Brigade of the Indian Army marked World Heart Day 2026 under the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat”, bringing cardiovascular awareness, screening, expert medical guidance and physical fitness together at Bhuj.

Coordinated by Military Hospital Bhuj, the week-long programme from September 21 to 29 went beyond a conventional awareness campaign, creating a comprehensive platform for personnel and families to understand their cardiac risks, act early and embrace healthier lifestyles.
Know the warning signs—before the heart sounds the alarm
The programme opened on September 21 with an expert lecture by Dr Meet Thacker, Cardiologist, focusing on prevention of cardiovascular diseases, early warning signs and practical measures for maintaining a healthy heart.
An interactive panel discussion followed, addressing common myths surrounding heart disease and highlighting the importance of preventive healthcare and timely medical intervention.
The underlying message was clear: heart health is not simply about responding to illness—it is about identifying risks before they become emergencies.

360+ screened, risks identified early
From September 23 to 25, Military Hospital Bhuj conducted a dedicated cardiovascular screening camp for personnel and dependents aged 40 years and above.
More than 360 beneficiaries underwent ECGs and essential diagnostic investigations, followed by consultations with Medical Officers and specialists. The exercise was aimed at facilitating the early identification of cardiac risk factors and encouraging timely medical attention wherever required.
The programme also incorporated awareness sessions on cardiac vigilance and stress management, alongside expert-guided CPR demonstrations, strengthening participants’ preparedness to respond during cardiac emergencies.
From heart checks to heart-healthy habits
The World Heart Day observance culminated on September 29 with a Walkathon to Sunset Point at Smritivan, Bhuj.
Troops and families of Bhuj Military Station joined faculty members of GAIMS–GK General Hospital and staff of Smritivan Museum, turning the walk into a collective expression of the importance of physical activity and cardiovascular wellbeing.

The choice of a Walkathon carried a simple but powerful message: protecting the heart does not begin and end inside a hospital. Regular movement, stress management, awareness and timely health checks are all part of the same preventive-health equation.
By bringing together expert-led education, cardiovascular screening, specialist consultations, stress-management awareness, CPR preparedness and physical fitness, the Bald Eagle Brigade reaffirmed the importance of a culture of preventive healthcare.
Under the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat,” the programme delivered a message that extended beyond World Heart Day: listen to your heart, know your risks, act early—and make every beat count.
