Dr Ezhilan Naganathan, Thousand Lights MLA and practicing physician on Saturday inaugurated the 18th edition of Kalpavriksha, the flagship national CME programme for postgraduate ophthalmology students of Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital and Eye Research Centre Foundation here on Saturday in the presence of Dr Ashvin Agarwal, Chief Clinical Officer, Dr Agarwals Group of Eye Hospital, along with organising secretaries Dr Soundari S., Dr Dhivya Ashok Kumar, and Dr Preethi Naveen.
The two-day conclave brings together over 30 leading faculty members and over 300 young doctors from across India, offering an intensive academic experience designed as a crash course for clinical practice and exam preparedness.

A Crash Course in Ophthalmology Excellence
The CME is structured to provide postgraduates with both theoretical clarity and practical exposure, featuring:
- Expert talks on exam-related ophthalmology topics
- Practical exam case presentations
- Hands-on wet lab training (Day 1)
- Interactive quiz programme (Day 2)
Sessions span multiple specialties, including Glaucoma, Retina, Cornea, and Neuro-Ophthalmology, conducted by eminent faculty from premier institutions. The Dr (Mrs) T. Agarwal Award for Best Case Presentation was also presented to encourage academic excellence.
This year’s special awards included:
- Dr Sikha Bince – Dr V. Velayutham Consistent Performer Award
- Dr Sara S. – Dr J. Agarwal Exemplary Award for Best Case Presentation

Dr Ezhilan Naganathan also appeals Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital to organise a collobarative CME programme on Opthalmology for practicing physicians on the lines of its flagship ‘Kalpavriksha’.
