Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi on Friday urged the youth to draw inspiration from the timeless principles advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, which can guide us in our journey towards a better future.
He was speaking at the 16th annual convocation ceremony and Founders Day of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation Deemed to be University (VMRF DU) held at Annapoorana Auditorium, Vinayaka Mission’s Kirupananda Variyar Medical College, Seeragapadi, Salem.

- The Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) is conferred upon Prof S Salomon Pappiah, Tamil Scholar
- 3,593 candidates were qualified to receive degrees in their respective Faculties at the Convocation
- 93 were Doctorates, 94 Gold Medals, 85 Silver Medals, and 74 Bronze Medals awarded to the rank holders
Annapoorani Shanmugasundaram, Trustee, Dato’ Seri. Dr S Sharavanan, Pro–Chancellor, Dr AS Ganesan, Chancellor and NV Chandrasekar, Vice President were present at the convocation.
Congratulating the graduating batch, Chief Guest Kailash Satyarthi, Nobel Peace Laureate, said, “Congratulations to the graduating class of 2023. Embrace the opportunities that come with assuming new roles and pursuing your dreams. Express gratitude for the collective efforts that have brought you to this moment. As you move forward, dare to dream big, explore your potential, and take decisive action. Remember that questioning societal norms can pave the way for transformative change. Cultivate compassion, as it is an essential factor in addressing the pressing global challenges we face today. Draw inspiration from the timeless principles advocated by Mahatma Gandhi, which can guide us in our journey towards a better future.”
Thanking the distinguished speakers at the convocation ceremony, Professor (Dr) PK Sudhir, Vice Chancellor, said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates and wish you success in both your family and professional lives. The future is in your hands, and much is expected of you. Make us proud by applying the ethics, compassion, and leadership you have cultivated during your time at VMRF (DU). Remember the words of Louis Pasteur, “Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity and is the torch that illuminates the world.” With your enriched education and skills, go forth and illuminate the world, bringing glory to our university. May God bless you all in your future endeavors.”
The Honorary Degrees of Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) were conferred upon Prof S Salomon Pappiah, Tamil Scholar, Television Personality & Pattimandram Moderator, and Prof Dr MR Rajagopal, Palliative Care Physician, and Founder Chairman of Pallium India, for the exceptional contribution of their respective field.
