AHMEDABAD, MAY 18

At a time when India is increasingly positioning entrepreneurship and skill development at the centre of economic growth, the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad, celebrated a major milestone by hosting its 25th convocation on Sunday, showcasing a new generation of innovators, start-up founders and future job creators.

98 graduates were conferred with diplomas and graduating certificates across academic programmes including PGDM-E, PGDM-IEV, PGDM Online, and FPM programmes, marking a strong step towards Viksit Bharat 2047.@lg_ladakh @PMOIndia @CMOGuj @IDBI_Bank @TheOfficialSBI @DICCIorg… pic.twitter.com/YcONCJLzEl

Recognised as a Centre of Excellence by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, EDII’s convocation reflected the growing national shift from traditional job-seeking toward entrepreneurship-driven career aspirations.

  • EDII Ahmedabad confers diplomas and certificates to 98 students at its 25th convocation
  • Graduating entrepreneurs present innovative start-up ideas ranging from AI platforms to biodegradable paper bottles
  • Institution highlights growing importance of skill development, mentorship and entrepreneurship training
  • Leaders urge students to become ethical entrepreneurs and lifelong learners in a rapidly changing world

The ceremony was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena as chief guest along with senior banking, industry and skill development leaders.

Young Entrepreneurs Present Future-Focused Start-Up Ideas

A total of 98 students and scholars received diplomas and graduating certificates across multiple academic programmes including:

  • PGDM – Entrepreneurship (PGDM-E)
  • PGDM – Innovation Entrepreneurship & Venture Development (PGDM-IEV)
  • PGDM-Online
  • Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)

What stood out during the convocation was the strong focus on practical entrepreneurship and skill-driven enterprise creation.

Students developed detailed project reports and long-term business growth plans in emerging sectors such as:

  • Plastic waste recycling plants
  • Artificial intelligence platforms
  • Child mental health services
  • Landscaping and horticulture solutions
  • Pet health technology ecosystems
  • Biodegradable paper bottle manufacturing

Several students also secured support under innovation and student start-up policies.

Skill Development Emerging as Nation-Building Tool

Addressing the graduating students, chief guest Vinai Kumar Saxena stressed that learning must continue throughout life, especially in an era of rapid technological and economic transformation.

“The world will always demand that you remain a student and a scholar in pursuit of knowledge,” he said.

He encouraged students to become ethical entrepreneurs and contribute meaningfully to national development through innovation, hard work and social responsibility.

The event strongly highlighted how skill development institutions are increasingly becoming incubation centres for entrepreneurship and employment generation rather than merely academic campuses.

EDII Pushes Entrepreneurship as Career Choice

EDII Director General Dr. Sunil Shukla noted that India is witnessing a major rise in entrepreneurial spirit, driven by start-up culture, policy support and growing awareness about enterprise development.

“The significance of training and mentorship in creating entrepreneurs has become stronger than ever before,” he said.

According to EDII officials, entrepreneurship training today goes beyond classroom education and focuses on:

  • Business planning
  • Innovation management
  • Financial literacy
  • Market understanding
  • Leadership development
  • Start-up incubation

Industry experts believe such institutions are becoming critical to India’s long-term economic and employment strategy.

Industry Leaders Stress Adaptability and Innovation

Rakesh Sharma, President of EDII and Managing Director & CEO of IDBI Bank Limited, urged students to remain adaptable and resilient in a fast-changing global economy.

“Innovation remains the cornerstone of entrepreneurship. Challenges should strengthen your resolve rather than discourage you,” he said.

He emphasized that future entrepreneurs must learn to navigate volatility, uncertainty and rapid technological disruption with creativity and courage.

Building India’s Entrepreneurial Ecosystem

Established in 1983 with support from leading financial institutions including IDBI, ICICI, IFCI and State Bank of India, EDII has emerged as one of India’s premier entrepreneurship training institutions.

Located on a sprawling 23-acre campus in Ahmedabad, the institute has played a significant role in shaping India’s entrepreneurial ecosystem through:

  • Entrepreneurship education
  • Skill development programmes
  • Research and policy support
  • Start-up mentoring
  • Innovation incubation

Education experts say the success of such institutions reflects India’s broader transition toward a knowledge-driven and innovation-led economy.
