The Election Commission of India will be announcing the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on Saturday, a spokesperson of the election body said.
The schedule will be announced during a press conference at 3pm on Saturday and it will be livestreamed on all social media platforms of the ECI, it said on X. The announcement comes soon after the two new election commissioners assumed charge on Friday.
The newly formed high-power panel chaired by the prime minister chose former bureaucrats Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as new election commissioners, and they assumed charge on Friday.
The vacancies had come up in the Election Commission after the retirement of Anup Chandra Pandey on February 14 and the sudden resignation of Arun Goel on March 8.

Gyanesh Kumar and Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu on Friday assumed charge as Election Commissioners in the Election Commission of India.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar welcomed the newly appointed Election Commissioners at Nirvachan Sadan to the action packed and intense twelve weeks ahead. He emphasized the significance of their joining at this historic point, when team ECI is all set to conduct the General Elections 2024 in the world’s largest democracy.
A notification regarding appointment of the Election Commissioners was published in the Gazette on March 14, 2024. Gyanesh Kumar and Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu are officers from the 1988 batch of the Indian Administrative Service who belonged to the Kerala and Uttarakhand cadres, respectively.
