Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Friday, on the occasion of the 60th Gujarat Foundation Day, said municipalities in semi-urban areas, as well as villages, must be on guard to ensure novel coronavirus infection does not break out in these parts.

Gujarat has 4,721 COVID-19 cases as on Friday evening, with the vast majority, or 89 percent, being in urban centres like Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara.
He held video-conference meets with office bearers of 162 municipalities and village heads and asked them to make all efforts to ensure areas under them are “coronavirus- free”.

“You must ensure your municipalities remain free of coronavirus. You need to regularly sanitize all the areas in your municipalities. Those municipalities which border cities having a high number of cases must be very alert. It must be ensured that people from red zones do not enter your areas and spread the infection,” he told them.
Rupani asked officials to maintain movement registers of those visiting cities and coming back to their towns, adding that these people should be medically examined.

He asked officials to take action against those not wearing masks despite it being made mandatory due to the virus outbreak.
He asked sarpanchs to ensure villages adhere to three norms, namely wearing masks, maintaining social-distance, and washing hands at regular intervals.
The Chief Minister talked to heads of Botad, Thangadh, Khambhat, Bharuch, Balasinor, Kansad, Chhotaudepur, Nadiad and Godhra to acquaint himself with the situation like availability of medical and other facilities

State reports 22 Covid-19 deaths and 326 new cases in 24 hours, 267 in Ahmedabad
With 326 new patients being detected since the previous night, 267 of them in Ahmedabad, the number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat reached 4,721 on Friday, a health official said.
Twenty-two patients died during this period, taking the death toll due to coronavirus to 236 in the state, said Principal Secretary, Health, Jayanti Ravi.

Out of the 326 positive cases reported in the past 24 hours, as many as 267 cases were reported in Ahmedabad, 26 in Surat, 19 in Vadodara, six in Mahisagar, three in Panchmahal and one each in Banaskantha, Botad, Gandhinagar, Kutch, and Patan districts, she said.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 4,721, new cases 326, deaths 236, discharged 736, active cases 3,749 and people tested so far 68,774.
267 new coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad, 16 deaths
The number of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad district reached 3,293 after 267 new cases were reported since the previous night, a health official said on Friday.
Moreover, 16 persons died in the district due to the infection during this period, said Principal Secretary, Health, Jayanti Ravi.
The death toll in the district thus reached 165, the highest in Gujarat, said Ravi.
At the same time, 83 persons recovered from the infection and were discharged from Ahmedabad-based government hospitals since Thursday night.
Three more wards of the Ahmedabad city have been put under Red Zone after new cases of coronavirus surfaced in these areas in the last few days, said officials of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
The three new wards in red zone are Saraspur, Asarawa and Gomtipur, said municipal commissioner Vijay Nehra. Jamalpur, Khadia, Dariyapur, Shahpur, Danilimda and Behrampura were put in red zone earlier.
A local MLA living in Jamalpur got infected earlier and recovered recently, but a senior corporator of Congress, a resident of Behrampura, died due to the infection.
Out of the total 2,470 active coronavirus patients currently undergoing treatment in the city, as many as 1,044 belong to the Central Zone, followed by 636 from South Zone and 253 from North Zone, Nehra said in video message on Friday.
“Looking at the number of cases emerging from specific areas during the last two-three days, we have decided to put these three wards into Red Zone,” said Nehra.
From Friday, it is mandatory for all the vendors and shopkeepers to wear face masks, he added.

MG Motor India announced the donation of a retrofitted Hector Ambulance to the healthcare authorities in Vadodara. The modified MG Hector ambulance comes with all the equipment, aids, medicines and features, required to provide immediate support to patients on their way to the hospital.
MG Motors’ engineering team at their plant in Halol partnered with Ahmedabad-based Natraj Body Builders to develop the retrofit model. The MG Hector ambulance was built in just a short span of 10 days and comes equipped with most of the medical equipment seen in conventional ambulances.

Providing details of the CM’s decisions, Secretary to CM Ashwani Kumar said, “The Chief Minister has decided to provide free food grains to 61 lakh APL-1 cardholders, i.e around 2.5 crore people for May. This includes 10 kg wheat, 3 kg rice, 1 kg pulses, and 1 kg sugar per family. The citizens can avail the grains from government-approved fair price shops from May 7 to May 12, 2020.”

Beneficiaries of MA Amrutam and MAA Vatsalya Yojana will undergo free COVID-19 tests during surgery or delivery of a child. The cost for the same will be borne by the state government.
Drawing, Essay Writing, and Poetry writing competitions for students on the theme of ‘Corona Warriors of Gujarat’
The Secretary also said that the Chief Minister has appealed to the students of schools and colleges to actively participate in Drawing, Essay Writing, and Poetry writing competition on the theme of ‘Corona Warriors of Gujarat’. The students will be required to submit their entries to the concerned District Education officer and the college students will be required to submit their entries to the Principal by May 10 either via E-mail or post. A student can participate in a maximum of 2 competitions. A cash prize of ₹15, 000 for First Position at the District Level, ₹ 11,000 for the second position and ₹ 5,000 for the third position. At the state level, five winners from each category will be awarded a cash prize of ₹ 25,000 by the state government.

The Chief Minister has also appealed people to upload a pledge taking video of the self on Twitter, FB, and Instagram using the #VijaySankalp.
15 lakh 48 thousand 657 quintals of grains have been sold by farmers at 139 APMS. This includes 6,11,767 quintals of wheat, 4,22,285 quintals of castor, and 94,604 quintals of mustard.
46.78 lakh liters of milk was distributed in the state.

On the occasion of Gujarat’s Foundation Day, Jha appealed the citizens to take three vows as suggested by the Chief Minister, 1.) Always wear a mask outside the house, 2.) Maintain social distancing and 3.) Wash hands frequently.
Stating that GRD, Home Guards, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, and RTO and Forest Department officials are working diligently for the strict implementation of the lockdown, the cooperation of the citizens is essential to make these efforts a success. And the police personnel who were infected during their duty have received treatment and are rejoining their duties after recovery.
Strict adherence to social-distancing is the need of the hour. The police have received complaints on police helpline number 100 of areas where social distancing is not being followed. 82 crimes have been registered in the state through this medium.
So far, 46 individuals have been booked under PASA for attacking the Corona Warriors.
Jha said that a total of 20,042 people have been arrested for 10,391 offenses to date. Meanwhile, under the Smart City and VISWAS project, 147 individuals have been arrested for 114 crimes reported through the CCTV network tallying up to 3,163 individuals for 2,119 crimes. Additionally, 34 crimes have been registered so far and 40 people have been arrested through CCTV’s in residential societies.
Similarly, spreading fake messages and rumors through social media, so far 585 crimes have been registered and 1,229 accused have been arrested. 23 accounts have been blocked. 236 and 74 offenses have been registered, respectively, through videography and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). 555 offenses have been registered so far with mounted cameras special ‘Prahari’ Van.
Cases that have been registered so far include 2,334 of the violation of lockdown, 1,312 against violating home quarantine, and 579 other cases. 8,231 vehicles have been seized in the state, added Jha. Police have released 1,49,018 detained vehicles so far.
