In order to advance the goal of Vikshit Bharat, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (NaFAC) & (NFAC) Jahanzeb Akhtar urged the external stakeholders and the IT Dept Officers the urgent need to place the Income Tax Department’s faceless model as a leading global paradigm for intelligent, data driven tax administration through mutual exchange of ideas and efforts here on Tuesday.
She was addressing at an outreach programme for Faceless Assessment and Faceless Appeals conducted at Aayakar Bhawan, MG Road, Nungambakkam, Chennai.
- Feedback was collected from the Officers posted in Faceless Assessment, Appeal Units & the external stakeholder on their issues and challenges faced with suggestions for improvement
- With the help of technology, the cases of scrutiny is allocated randomly to any official in any part of the country
It was organized as a systematic attempt to improve and finetune the working of the hyper-digitized and intelligent vertical of Income Tax Department, which goes by the popular name of “Faceless”, to align it better with ease of business for tax payers and transparent, efficient and accountable functioning for Department Officers. Feedback was collected from the Officers posted in Faceless Assessment and Appeal Units on their issues and challenges faced with suggestions for improvement. In a separate session with external stakeholders such as taxpayers, charted accountants, advocates, Chamber of commerce, Trade bodies etc., their experience of Faceless processes was discussed along with suggestions for improvement.
Advantages of faceless system
The assessment system seeks to eliminate corrupt practices by doing away with the territorial jurisdiction of income-tax offices. With the help of technology, the cases of scrutiny is allocated randomly to any official in any part of the country. The document identification numbers are issued from the central database.
Review of orders also done by another team at some other place, chosen randomly using data analytics and artificial intelligence.
