If we want our kids to change, we must begin with ourselves: Sadhu Vaswani Mission’s Global Head

Today, we are raising children with all possible facilities and material comforts. However, we are not giving them time. We are giving them gadgets, but not the right guidance. Children are like sponge and observe and imitate parents: Didi Krishna Kumari, Global Head of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission-NE photo

Having already visited Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, and Junagadh, Didi Krishna Kumari is now in Ahmedabad, where she is taking part in a series of events. Speaking on Thursday, she emphasised the need for parents to give time to their children.

Addressing media-persons, Didi said, “Today, we are raising children with all possible facilities and material comforts. However, we are not giving them time. We are giving them gadgets, but not the right guidance. Children are like sponge and observe and imitate parents.”

She noted how digital devices, intended to make life easier, have become sources of distraction and disconnection.

“Phones were meant to save us time, but they have become time-draining devices. Even parents spend a lot of time on their phones, including during family meals, and naturally children follow them. If we want our children to change, we must begin with ourselves. Parents need to become role models for children,” she said.

Didi also highlighted the importance of value education, urging parents and teachers to instil love, compassion, self-discipline, and spiritual awareness in young minds to help them tackle life’s challenges.

“We once honoured character above all else. Today, wealth, status, and power have become our new gods. But true happiness cannot be bought and must be cultivated from within through love, simplicity, and a life of service,” she noted.

Didi’s Gujarat visit follows the recent inauguration of “Rev. Dada Vaswani Way” and the “Truth & Love Garden” in Secaucus City, New Jersey. Didi also received a letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed his joy and pride at these developments.

During her Gujarat visit, Didi has been engaging in a series of meetings and interactions. Addressing school children and teachers, she spoke about the values of empathy, kindness, and moral responsibility.

When asked what one habit every student should develop, she said, “Do everything with awareness. Study with awareness, speak with awareness, even use your mobile with awareness. Awareness brings clarity, and clarity brings peace,” she said.

Didi is scheduled to meet Sindhi community leaders and participate in educational events promoting the preservation of culture and language, alongside the practice of universal love. On August 30, she will speak on the Sindhi language at the Sardar Patel Memorial, followed by a public address at Sindhu Bhavan on August 31, where she will reflect on her journey across Gujarat and share Dada’s teachings. Her visit will conclude with a special session at Gandhinagar University on September 1, where she will address students and faculty on the role of spiritual values in shaping a better future.

Didi’s visit also highlights two major global initiatives of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission. The first is World Meatless Day, observed annually on 25 November, to mark Sadhu Vaswani’s birth anniversary. More than 25.80 crore people have pledged to abstain from non-vegetarian food under the initiative so far.

The second initiative is ‘The Moment of Calm’, a global peace movement dedicated to promoting foriveness, love, and inner peace in the troubled hearts of humanity. It is observed on August 2 at 2:00 pm, the birth time of Rev. Dada JP Vaswani. This moment invites people to pause, let go, and embrace the calm within them.

The Sadhu Vaswani Mission is also involved in several initiatives related to education, healthcare, social services, rural development, disaster relief, and promotion of the Sindhi language.
