FICCI FLO Ahmedabad Chapter Chairperson Taruna Patel on Friday, World Environment Day, took a pledge to save the environment by dispersing 5 crore seed balls across pan India before June 2021. This green drive will be carried out jointly with Elecon Group of Companies & FICCI FLO under the leadership of the later’s President Jahnabi Phookan, a release said.
Taruna Patel organized a webinar to celebrate World Environment Day which saw the participation of Tribal Development, Forest, Women and Child Welfare Minister Ganpatbhai Vestabhai Vasava; Nityanand Srivastava, IFS, APCCF; . Kamala Chhaiya, MD, Gujarat State Seeds Corporation Ltd; Dr. Jagdish Prasad, IFS (Retd.), Chief Executive Officer, Gujarat Medicinal Plant Board; i R.G. Gohil, IAS, District Collector – Anand and Milankumar Manibhai Rajyaguru, Assistant Conservator of Forests – Anand.

This year World Environment Day is being hosted in Colombia in partnership with Germany and the theme is “BIODIVERSITY” and is being widely celebrated in more than 143 countries.
Taruna Patel came up with this unique initiative of seed balls with her pledge to disperse one crore seed balls on June 5, 2019, to conserve the environment and support one of the United Nations 17 Sustainable Goals.
Speaking on this unique initiative, Patel said, “When the world is struggling to save the environment and trees have become the silent victims of modernization, we celebrate World Environment Day to establish positive environmental changes all over the world and we must lead by example. Dispersal of seed balls is a solution to create a green cover as it is rapidly gaining popularity across the globe for reforestation of barren lands. Seed balls have surfaced as a very effective and simple solution to help save our environment and enhancing the green cover swiftly, which is the need of the hour.”
One of the Elecon Group Companies has been producing 25,000 seed balls a day from February this year. In spite of the lockdown, Taruna Patel has been able to complete her pledge of making 1 crore seed balls which will be dispersed during this monsoon over next two months with the active support of government officials.
