In a powerful push to ignite innovation and hands-on learning among young engineers, IIT Gandhinagar, in collaboration with Boeing India, will host the Western Zonal Round of the Boeing National Aeromodelling Competition 2025-26 on November 8, 2025, as part of its annual tech summit, Amalthea.
The event invites participants to design, build, and fly radio-controlled fixed-wing aircraft, applying advanced concepts from aerodynamics, flight mechanics, avionics, and fabrication. The challenge is not just about engineering precision—it’s about pushing the boundaries of creativity and real-world problem-solving.
“When ideas take flight, innovation finds its wings,” said a Boeing India spokesperson. “Through this initiative, we aim to nurture India’s next generation of aerospace innovators.”
Over 30 teams from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Goa will compete in two rigorous stages — a Qualifier Round to test aircraft stability and payload capacity, followed by a Main Round assessing precision in payload delivery. The top three teams will advance to the national finals at IIT Delhi.
This competition, one of four zonal rounds held across the country (others at IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, and KIIT Bhubaneswar), is part of Boeing India’s larger mission to foster innovation and skill development through programmes like BUILD, HorizonX India Innovation Challenge, and the Accelerated AME Apprenticeship Programme.
Prof. Harish P. M., Faculty Advisor for Amalthea, said, “The Aeromodelling Competition captures the spirit of IITGN—learning by doing, exploring by building, and dreaming by flying.”
As a highlight of Amalthea 2025, the event underlines IIT Gandhinagar’s commitment to experiential learning, industry partnership, and nurturing the future of India’s aerospace engineering ecosystem.
