Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently felicitated Alpa Bhatt from Ahmedabad at the launch of Swiggy ‘She The Change’ initiative.
Commemorating nearly a decade of working with women entrepreneurs, Swiggy recently launched “She The Change”, an initiative aimed at recognizing and celebrating both budding and established women entrepreneurship in the food and beverage industry. Among various women entrepreneurs applauded at the event, was Alpa Bhatt from Ahmedabad. She owns Aarambh Kitchen and is running a successful business contributing to the food and beverage industry of India.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman said “From keeping women at the centre of policymaking to women-related budgets to discussing women in employment, we have come a long way. Today, I can see there is great vibrancy in women-led enterprises, where women are coming forth and taking up business challenges whether small, medium or big, you find women everywhere, and programmes such as Swiggy’s “She the Change” are giving them the encouragement and a little push, and for other women to know this is possible.”
With over 50,000 women-run restaurants on its platform, Swiggy believes in the transformative potential of these entrepreneurs who are estimated to generate approximately three hundred thousand jobs, as each restaurant employs an average of six direct employees. Swiggy believes that this is merely the beginning of their contribution to the food and beverage sector, which accounts for around three per cent of the country’s GDP. The initiative also received praise from for its role in promoting women’s inclusion in the workforce, aligning with the Prime Minister’s the vision of ‘Nari Shakti.’
The launch event served as a platform for accomplished women entrepreneurs in F&B from across India.
The event, attended by distinguished figures from economics and academia, as well as Swiggy’s leadership, including Sriharsha Majety, Group CEO of Swiggy, and Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Food Marketplace at Swiggy, celebrated the remarkable contributions and inspiring journeys of women entrepreneurs in India in creating a difference through their ventures.
