GANDHINAGAR, OCT 7
From training athletes on the campus to helping shape the sporting ecosystem beyond it, Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU)’s School of Physical Education and Sports (SPES) is expanding its footprint in sports administration. Kalpesh Sharma, Sports Training Officer at SPES, RRU Gujarat Campus, has been appointed as a Member of the Armwrestling Sports Association, Gujarat, giving him a formal role in planning, managing and supporting the sport’s development in the State.
The appointment places professional sports training and event-management expertise directly within the association’s organisational framework and is expected to strengthen the planning and execution of armwrestling championships at both state and national levels.
From training ground to sports governance
In his new role, Sharma will be involved in strategic planning and organisation of state-level and national-level armwrestling events, apart from actively managing events and programmes whenever championships are hosted by the association.
He will also undertake operational responsibilities assigned by the association, supporting the smooth conduct of its programmes and competitions.
The role extends beyond event execution. Sharma will provide specialised professional advice to the association and will have official voting rights on key institutional initiatives, giving him a direct role in organisational decision-making.
Expertise meets institutional responsibility
Sharma will also contribute to the formulation and management of organisational policies and assist in shaping the association’s long-term goals for the development of armwrestling in Gujarat.
The combination of sports training, event management, policy formulation and institutional participation gives the appointment significance beyond a conventional administrative designation.
It also creates an opportunity to bring a more structured and professional approach to the organisation and promotion of armwrestling, particularly as the sport continues to attract participants across different age groups and competitive levels.
RRU’s sports ecosystem steps onto a larger stage
For RRU’s School of Physical Education and Sports, the appointment marks a significant milestone, highlighting the contribution of its sports professionals to sports administration, championship management and the broader development of competitive sport.
The move reflects the university’s expanding engagement with sports not merely as a component of physical education, but also as a field encompassing athlete development, event management, governance, institutional planning and sports administration.
Sharma’s new responsibility is expected to provide a bridge between academic and professional sports expertise and the practical requirements of organising and developing competitive armwrestling in Gujarat.
As he takes on the new assignment, the focus will now be on converting strategic planning into well-organised championships, stronger sporting programmes and a more structured pathway for the growth of armwrestling across the State.
