AHMEDABAD, MAR 9
In a significant step toward transforming how students choose their academic paths, Ahmedabad-based startup Pickademy has launched an AI-powered global education search platform designed to help students navigate the complex maze of universities, colleges and courses across the world.
Positioned as a next-generation education discovery engine, Pickademy uses advanced artificial intelligence and semantic search technology to guide students toward informed academic and career decisions.
The platform introduces “Picksy,” an intelligent AI assistant that interacts with students, compares academic options and maps potential career outcomes — turning the traditionally confusing process of course selection into a guided digital experience.
The launch follows over two years of research and development, during which the team built a massive academic database containing 3.58 lakh courses offered by universities across 11 countries. The platform’s creators say the database will continue to expand as more institutions and programmes are integrated.
‘Google for Education Choices’
Founder Rahul Ghadia said the platform aims to solve one of the biggest challenges facing Indian students — confusion over education and career options.
“India has millions of students who are confused about courses and careers after school. Our ambition is to make Pickademy the ‘Google for education choices’ in India — a place where every student can search, compare and confidently decide their academic future. Over the next five years, we aim to scale the platform to serve millions of students not only in India but globally, transforming how education decisions are made.”
Rahul emphasised that the platform is not designed to replace traditional career counselling but to enhance it.
“Artificial intelligence is transforming education, but we do not see Pickademy replacing human mentors. Instead, it will work alongside teachers, counsellors and parents, providing data-driven insights that help them guide students more effectively.”
According to him, the biggest challenge in India’s education ecosystem is not just lack of information but lack of personalised guidance.
“If Pickademy succeeds, the biggest problem it can solve is the information gap combined with the absence of personalised career guidance. Students often receive fragmented information from different sources. Our AI brings everything together and converts raw data into actionable insights.”
Ensuring Unbiased Recommendations
One of the biggest criticisms of many education portals is their tendency to become lead-generation marketplaces for colleges. Rahul said Pickademy is consciously building safeguards to maintain credibility.
“Many platforms eventually turn into advertising marketplaces where institutions pay for visibility. We are committed to keeping Pickademy’s recommendations unbiased and data-driven. Our ranking and recommendation systems are built on transparent algorithms that prioritise academic relevance, student goals and outcomes rather than paid partnerships.”
He also explained the company’s revenue model.
“Pickademy operates on a student subscription model, starting at ₹99 per week and ₹249 per month, along with a free introductory trial. While we may collaborate with institutions in the future for verified data access, financial partnerships will never influence rankings or recommendations. Trust is the foundation of our platform.”
Evidence of Impact and Student Outcomes
Co-founder and strategic advisor Harshal Pushkarna said early testing suggests the platform significantly improves decision-making for students.
“India already has several edtech and course-discovery platforms. What differentiates Pickademy is that it is built as a decision intelligence engine rather than a listing portal. In our early beta tests, students were able to shortlist relevant courses up to 70% faster compared to traditional search methods. The feedback shows that the platform reduces confusion and helps students focus on realistic career pathways.”
Harshal believes the platform could address the persistent mismatch between education and employability.
“The biggest structural problem in the education ecosystem is the disconnect between courses and career outcomes. Pickademy bridges this gap by showing students not just where they can study but also what careers those courses can lead to.”
AI Technology Behind Pickademy
The platform’s technology backbone is built using advanced AI architecture designed to understand user intent rather than simply match keywords.
Co-founder and CTO Virendra Rajput explained: “Traditional education portals rely heavily on keyword-based searches. Our AI architecture uses semantic understanding and contextual learning, meaning it interprets what a student actually wants rather than just matching words typed into a search box.”
According to Rajput, the platform analyses multiple variables to generate personalised recommendations.
“Pickademy’s AI considers factors such as academic performance, interests, career aspirations, entrance exams, geographical preferences, financial considerations and emerging industry trends. The system learns continuously through user interactions and structured feedback to refine its recommendations.”
The platform’s database is also updated continuously to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving education landscape.
“Our database is refreshed regularly with new courses, institutional updates and changing career trends. The AI system is designed to learn from new datasets and user behaviour, ensuring recommendations remain accurate and future-focused.”
Expanding with Mobile and Regional Languages
Pickademy is also preparing to launch its Android mobile application, which will make the platform more accessible to students across India.
In addition, the AI assistant Picksy will soon support regional languages.
Initially, the interactive assistant will be available in Hindi and Gujarati, followed by other Indian languages. Global languages will also be introduced gradually as the platform expands internationally.
A Digital Companion for Students
With its combination of AI-powered discovery, personalised recommendations and global course data, Pickademy aims to become a trusted digital companion for students navigating higher education choices.
As Rahul Ghadia summed up: “Education decisions shape an entire lifetime. If technology can remove confusion and empower students with clarity, then platforms like Pickademy can fundamentally change how the next generation plans its future.”
