A Blueprint for Building Science-Led Companies in India
Authored by Chirag Gupta, Govind Kedia, and Dr. Sunil K. Shekhawat, Moonshots and Marathons addresses one of India’s most pressing innovation challenges—translating scientific research into commercially viable, globally competitive enterprises.
The book explores key dimensions of DeepTech entrepreneurship, including:
- Moving from research prototypes to market-ready products
- Navigating intellectual property frameworks
- Securing patient capital for long-gestation technologies
- Building resilient, long-term technology businesses
Drawing from real founder journeys and operational insights across sectors such as space, climate, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare, the book provides practical, India-specific guidance rather than theoretical frameworks.
“DeepTech Companies Are Built Over Years, Not Quarters”
Sharing the intent behind the book, co-author Chirag Gupta said:
“DeepTech companies are built over years, not quarters. With Moonshots and Marathons, we wanted to create a practical guide that reflects the realities founders face between a working prototype and a scalable business, and share lessons that can help shorten that journey.”
Dr. Sunil K. Shekhawat highlighted the structural challenges innovators face:
“India has strong scientific talent, but the path from laboratory to market remains complex. This book brings together practical insights to help founders navigate that path with more clarity.”
Their combined perspective reflects the growing recognition that DeepTech requires long-term commitment, ecosystem alignment, and policy support to succeed.
Strengthening India’s DeepTech and Innovation Ecosystem
The choice of venue—the ISRO Space Applications Centre—underscored India’s expanding ambitions in frontier technologies, from space exploration to climate innovation and advanced manufacturing.
The event spotlighted collaboration between public institutions, private industry, venture capital, and research organisations—an essential combination for scaling breakthrough technologies globally.
Published by Penguin Enterprise, Moonshots and Marathons is now available in bookstores and online platforms, offering founders, policymakers, and investors a grounded playbook for building sustainable DeepTech enterprises in India.
