A new address of camaraderie, care and celebration has emerged for the Armed Forces fraternity in Chennai, with the Indian Army inaugurating the Sainik Institute St Thomas Mount as a dedicated welfare facility for serving and retired personnel, their families and civil defence employees.
The Indian Army inaugurated the Sainik Institute St Thomas Mount, Chennai, on Wednesday as part of its continuing commitment to the welfare, well-being and quality of life of uniformed personnel, civil defence employees and their families.

Functioning under the aegis of Dakshin Bharat Area, the facility provides serving and retired personnel and their families from the Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Indian Coast Guard and Civil Defence with a spacious, convenient and affordable venue for hosting important functions and events in the heart of Chennai.
The facility features a spacious air-conditioned hall, open lawn and ante room, complemented by a self-help kitchen with washing area and ample parking space. The combination makes the institute a versatile venue capable of accommodating gatherings of varying sizes.
The facility was inaugurated by the Zonal President of the Army Women Welfare Association (AWWA), Dakshin Bharat Area.
In his opening remarks, the General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat Area, described the Sainik Institute as a meaningful step towards enhancing the quality of life of the military fraternity and a reflection of the Service ethos of “Care and Share.”
He further highlighted that facilities of this nature strengthen the bond among the various Services and the families who stand behind them, while providing a dignified and convenient space to celebrate important personal occasions.
Strategically located near the OTA-Nanganallur Metro Station, the facility offers convenient connectivity for personnel and guests travelling from different parts of Chennai and Tamil Nadu.
The Sainik Institute will become functional from Independence Day, Saturday, adding a new welfare facility to the Dakshin Bharat Area’s continuing efforts to support the wider military community.
