NE BUSINESS BUREAU
AHMEDABAD, AUG 14

From a hit-making film studio to a listed entertainment enterprise, Sunshine Pictures Limited is preparing to bring its cinematic journey to Dalal Street—with a ₹282-crore IPO that seeks to turn storytelling, intellectual property and content distribution into a scalable public-market proposition.

Sunshine Pictures Limited will open its initial public offering (IPO) on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, with the issue closing on Thursday, August 20, offering investors a chance to participate in the next phase of a production house behind titles including ‘Force’, ‘Commando: A One-Man Army’, ‘Holiday: A Soldier is never off duty’, ‘Force 2’, ‘Commando 2: The black money trail’ and ‘The Kerala Story’.

The price band has been fixed at ₹342–₹360 per equity share of face value ₹10. The anchor investor bidding will take place on Monday, August 17. Investors can bid for a minimum of 41 shares and in multiples of 41 thereafter. The latest reported issue schedule and price band are also confirmed by market reports.

At the upper end of the band, the total offer works out to about ₹282.13 crore, comprising a fresh issue of up to 48,00,034 equity shares aggregating up to ₹172.80 crore and an offer for sale (OFS) of up to 30,37,157 shares aggregating up to ₹109.33 crore.

₹172.8 crore fresh capital: working-capital war chest

The fresh issue is designed to strengthen Sunshine Pictures’ working-capital position, with up to ₹112.5 crore of the net proceeds proposed to be deployed towards working-capital requirements, while the balance is earmarked for general corporate purposes.

The OFS will see promoter Vipul Amrutlal Shah offer up to 20,31,388 equity shares, valued at up to ₹73.13 crore at the upper price band, while Shefali Vipul Shah will offer up to 10,05,769 shares, worth up to ₹36.21 crore.

The IPO therefore combines growth capital for the business with partial promoter monetisation, while keeping Sunshine Pictures firmly positioned for its next content cycle.

A production house building an entertainment ecosystem

Founded in 2007, Sunshine Pictures has evolved from film production and distribution into a broader entertainment platform spanning cinema, digital, music and distribution. Its official website currently lists productions including The Kerala Story, Bastar, Governor, Commando, Bawra Mann and Ankahee, reflecting the company’s widening content universe.

The company has so far produced 13 commercial films, of which seven were co-produced with established studios and six were self-produced. It has also produced two web series, three television serials and one short commercial film.

Its recent diversification into Sunshine Music and Sunshine Digital (Originals) is aimed at creating additional content-led revenue streams. The company currently has 36 original music videos on YouTube, along with its digital offerings Bawra Mann and Ankahee.

And the content pipeline is far from empty: Sunshine Pictures has six films and two web series lined up for production.

‘The Kerala Story’ effect—and the numbers behind the screen

The company’s biggest commercial calling card remains The Kerala Story, which it describes, citing the D&B Report, as the highest return-on-investment blockbuster in 2023.

That commercial track record is accompanied by an unusually strong profitability profile.

For FY26, Sunshine Pictures reported ₹74.43 crore in standalone revenue, ₹58.54 crore EBITDA and ₹40.02 crore PAT, translating into an EBITDA margin of 78.65% and PAT margin of 53.77%.

That margin profile could become one of the key numbers for IPO investors to watch, particularly because the entertainment business is increasingly shifting from a purely theatrical model towards monetisation of intellectual property across theatrical, streaming, television, music, digital and distribution channels.

Sunshine Pictures’ original IPO documents describe the business as being engaged across the entire content lifecycle—from originating and developing stories to production, marketing, distribution and monetisation of rights.

A ₹360-share bet on India’s content economy

The proposed IPO is thus not merely a fundraising exercise for another film producer. It is a public-market bet on the IP-led entertainment economy, where a successful story can potentially travel across theatres, OTT platforms, television, music, digital channels and overseas markets.

The company’s strategy of adding music and digital originals alongside films could provide multiple avenues for monetising its content library, while its upcoming slate offers investors visibility into future production activity.

The equity shares are proposed to be listed on both BSE Limited and the National Stock Exchange of India Limited, with NSE designated as the stock exchange for the issue.

Up to 50% of the offer will be available to Qualified Institutional Buyers, with 5% of the QIB portion reserved for mutual funds, subject to valid bids at or above the offer price. Not less than 15% will be available to Non-Institutional Bidders, while not less than 35% will be reserved for Retail Individual Bidders, subject to applicable regulations and valid bids.

GYR Capital Advisors Private Limited is the Book Running Lead Manager to the issue.

With the August 18 opening bell approaching, Sunshine Pictures is effectively inviting investors to look beyond the box office—and place a valuation on the business of creating, owning, distributing and repeatedly monetising stories.
