AHMEDABAD, JAN 10
Ahmedabad Branch of Bharat-Bharati is set to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India and the architect of modern national unity, in an inspiring edutainment event that blends culture, values and youth participation. The programme will take place at Gujarat Vidyapith on Sunday from 4 pm to 8 pm, uniting citizens, students and culture bearers in a vibrant tribute to patriotism and national integration.
The celebration carries deep civilisational significance, coming on the heels of nationwide commemorations marking the life and legacy of Sardar Patel — whose role in unifying over 560 princely states remains a cornerstone of India’s unity narrative and is celebrated annually on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) on October 31 across the country.
Distinguished Dignitaries to Grace the Occasion
The event will be graced by Union Cultural Minister Gajendraingh Shekhavat as the Chief Guest, underscoring the cultural and national importance of the occasion. Among the esteemed Guests of Honour will be:
- Pratibhaben Jain, Mayor of Ahmedabad
- Devangbhai Dani, AMC Standing Committee Chairman
- Harshadbhai Patel, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Vidyapith
- Jayeshbhai Trivedi, AMC Recreation & Cultural Committee Chairman
- Rijwan Kadri, Deputy Principal Secretary, National Museum
The gathering is expected to draw about 6,000 delegates from 22 states, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry and traditions of India, echoing the unity that Sardar Patel championed throughout his life.
Honouring Nation-Builders with the Sardar Patel Award
A highlight of the celebration will be the presentation of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Award to 10 eminent personalities who have shown exceptional contributions to nation-building. The awards will be presented by the Chief Guest, creating a platform not only for remembrance but also for inspiring contemporary leadership and service.
Organisers noted that this event has already been successfully staged in various parts of the nation as part of a broader initiative to keep Patel’s legacy alive in public memory and practice.
Inspiring Students & Parents to Register and Participate
The celebration is designed not just as a commemorative event but as an educational and cultural experience for young people and families. Students and parents are encouraged to attend and register to partake in workshops, cultural performances, and interactive sessions that interpret Sardar Patel’s contributions through dialogue, art, history and collective learning.
This emphasis on participation resonates with ongoing national efforts to engage youth — from school-level Run for Unity events to cultural symposiums — aimed at instilling patriotism and civic responsibility in the next generation.
By celebrating Patel’s birth anniversary at a historic venue like Gujarat Vidyapith — an educational institution founded by Mahatma Gandhi — the event symbolically bridges India’s freedom struggle and its future through knowledge, dignity and public service.
