AHMEDABAD, OCT 2
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Department of Posts reaffirmed Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless message of cleanliness, non-violence, and selfless service by organizing a series of community initiatives and a cleanliness drive in Ahmedabad.

Speaking at the event, Postmaster General of North Gujarat Region, Krishna Kumar Yadav, said, “Mahatma Gandhi was not only a hero of India’s freedom struggle but also an ideal of social service. Cleanliness was not just a habit for him but a spiritual practice, and he inspired society to embrace it as a collective responsibility.”
As part of the celebrations, floral tributes were paid to the Father of the Nation at the Regional Office, followed by the felicitation of Safai Mitras, acknowledging their crucial role in maintaining hygiene. A special cleanliness drive and Shramdan activity was conducted at the School for the Deaf and Blind, Navrangpura, where postal officials and staff joined hands to spread Gandhi’s message of collective responsibility.
Reflecting Gandhiji’s ideals, India Post observed the ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ from 17th September to 2nd October under the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission. The fortnight-long campaign featured activities such as the Swachhta pledge, essay and quiz competitions on cleanliness, tree plantation under the ‘Ek Ped Maa ke Naam’ initiative, and the nationwide ‘One Day – One Hour – Together’ Shramdan program.
Postmaster General Yadav also highlighted Gandhi’s global relevance, stating, “The world continues to draw inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts. It is a matter of pride for India that the highest number of commemorative stamps in the world have been issued on Gandhiji, keeping his message alive across generations and geographies.”
The program witnessed active participation from postal officials including Assistant Directors Shri M. M. Shaikh and Shri V. M. Vahora, Senior Accounts Officer Ms. Pooja Rathore, Assistant Accounts Officer Shri Chetan Sain, Assistant Superintendent Shri Jinesh Patel, and others.
