GUWAHATI, AUG 1

When floodwaters wash away homes, livelihoods and the fragile certainty of tomorrow, a packet of food, a strip of medicine or a basic hygiene kit can become far more than relief—it can become a message that someone cares. In flood-ravaged Assam, that message is travelling deep into Upper Assam, with Gautam Adani contributing ₹11 crore to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Adani Foundation extending ground-level assistance to nearly 8,000 affected families.

The contribution comes as Assam battles a severe flood crisis that has devastated communities, disrupted livelihoods and left thousands dependent on emergency assistance. Upper Assam has been among the hardest-hit regions, with Sivasagar and neighbouring districts facing extensive damage.

Acknowledging the contribution on X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the support would “strengthen the state’s flood relief efforts” and help thousands of affected families.

₹11 crore from the heart, relief on the ground

Building on the contribution, the Adani Foundation, the social welfare and development arm of the Adani Group, has launched a dedicated flood-relief programme across Upper Assam with support from Adani Smart Meter and Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL), a subsidiary of Adani Airport Holdings.

The operation is not confined to easily accessible centres. Relief teams are pushing into remote and difficult-to-reach locations where flood-hit families face the toughest road back to normality.

Nearly 8,000 families in the Nazira Sub-Division of Sivasagar district and Silapathar in Dhemaji district are being reached with essential relief kits.

Food, medicines—and a little dignity

Each relief kit has been designed around the immediate needs of families emerging from the devastation—essential food items, medicines, sanitation material and hygiene supplies.

The humanitarian response covers 14 villages in Nazira, including Gurmur Miri (Nepali Basti), Santak Grant, Baligaon, Rojapool Duwarah Gaon, Bamunpukhuri, Gohain Gaon (Komol Sapori), Hulang Katoni, Hulang Kalita, Bengmora Konwar Gaon, Bailung Gaon, Miri Gaon, Ougurijan and Bihubor Grant, besides flood-affected areas of Silapathar.

The emphasis on last-mile delivery assumes significance in a disaster where physical access itself becomes a challenge. Assam’s flood emergency has already damaged homes, agricultural land and infrastructure, with communities in several areas struggling to access basic necessities.

From relief today to resilience tomorrow

For the Adani Foundation, the intervention is being positioned not merely as an emergency distribution exercise but as the beginning of a longer recovery journey.

“For the Adani Foundation, relief is the first step in recovery.”

As floodwaters recede and families confront the enormous task of restoring homes, livelihoods and everyday life, the Foundation said it remains committed to supporting their recovery and helping communities emerge “stronger and more resilient.”

The philosophy echoes the Foundation’s wider social-development approach spanning education, health and nutrition, sustainable livelihoods, climate action and community development.

When Assam hurts, compassion must travel

The scale of the humanitarian challenge remains formidable. But across the flood-hit landscape, relief efforts by governments, corporates, voluntary organisations and citizens are creating a vital bridge between devastation and recovery.

For families who have seen the floodwaters swallow their belongings, the first relief kit is not just a collection of essentials—it is the first small brick in rebuilding a life.
