As many as five persons arrested for various offenses were detained under Goondas Act by the Greater Chennai City Police (GCCP) during this week, according to Commissioner of Police, Shankar Jiwal.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, he said that the GCCP has detained 72 persons under Goondas Act for criminal offences such selling drugs, cybercrime, those involved in prostitution and violation of prohibition act etc from Jan 1 to March 24 this year.
Persons detained under Goondas Act were: R Duraiappa (43) of Vettuvankani, A Imdath Basha alias Imran (23) of Triplicane for prostitution, R Lokesh (21) of Thousand Lights for robbery, V Arun alias Arun Kumar (23) Kodungayiur for robbery and S Alexander (58) for land grabbing, the release added.
