GEM Hospitals, pioneers in minimally invasive surgery – laparoscopic & robotic surgeries, and India’s leading Bariatric Surgical Centre in association with Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India (AMASI) organized HERNIA CARNIVAL 2024 – a two-day International Conference on “Minimal Access Hernia Surgery” from 15th March to 16th March 2024 in Chennai.

Dr. C. Palanivelu, Founder & Chairman, GEM Hospitals along with Dr. C J Varghese, President – AMASI, Dr. Kalpesh Jani, President Elect – AMASI, Dr. Deborshi Sharma, Honorary Secretary – AMASI inaugurated the conference on Friday in the presence of delegates and experts from around the globe.
More than 8500 delegates and International faculties have participated in the conference. Doctors of international repute from all over the globe shared their knowledge with the present delegates and live surgeries from GEM Hospital, Perungudi were screened on both the days of the conference.
⇑ The new edition of the book on “Laparoscopic HERNIA SURGERY” authored by Dr. C. Palanivelu, Chairman, GEM Hospitals was released during the inauguration.
Dr. C. Palanivelu, Chairman, GEM Hospitals said that, “This grand Hernia Carnival will help surgeons to innovate, build, apply and refine techniques enabling an unleashing feast to their knowledge. The conference aims at trying to update the surgeons regarding the recent innovations in the field, to train the new surgeons in laparoscopic hernia surgery, to try to answer the doubts that are encountered in day to day practice and to deal with unexpected scenarios”.
“At this international conference, AMASI have launched an Advanced Fellowship in Hernia Surgery (MMAS) “Master in Minimal Access Surgery – Hernia”, following the huge success of FMAS & DMAS. Another highlight of the conference is the formation of AMASI Hernia Consortium where hernia surgeons from across the country comes under one roof for knowledge sharing and to fine-tune the best standards in clinical practice”, he further added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. S Asokan, Director & CEO, GEM Hospital Chennai said, “The highlights of the conference shall be Live surgical workshops, the Orations by the masters in the field, Video sessions of the latest techniques, etc. The intention of this Conference is to create a New Learning Experience, where we aim to introduce emotional learning in addition to intelligence and knowledge based learning. Establishing the best standards in clinical practice would lay the foundation to reduce the chances of morbidity & mortality and also aid in the best possible long term outcomes”.
Commenting on the conference, Dr. P. Senthilnathan, Director, GEM Hospital Chennai said, “As a part of this Hernia Carnival we had conducted Hernia Awareness Week at our hospital from 1st March till 3rd March 2024 where the patients were educated and informed about the disease during the camp. Also, there were various complex hernia patients, who had failed multiple operations in the past, have been fixed in a minimally invasive way in our hospital. We have a separate team of doctors at GEM Hospital who are dedicated for dealing such complex and large hernias”.
