The garment manufacturers in Ahmedabad have, for the past many years, been urging the Government to set up a domestic apparel park in Ahmedabad and to denotify the Ahmedabad Apparel Park GIDC SEZ in Khokhra so that the industry can be pivoted towards making readymade garments.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of The Gujarat Garment Manufacturers Association’s National Level Two-Day B2B Trade Fair on Wednesday, president of GGMA Vijay Purohit, said, “We have been urging the Government to set up a domestic apparel park in Ahmedabad and to denotify the Ahmedabad Apparel Park GIDC SEZ in Khokhra so that the industry can be pivoted towards making readymade garments. Khokhra SEZ has only five percent occupancy for a long time. And also we demand the government to extend capital subsidy to the garment industry as they fall under the MSME sector.”
