GANDHINAGAR, MARCH 10
The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) on Sunday conducted first trial runs between Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) and GIFT CITY link for Phase II of the Ahmedabad metro, which will connect GIFT City with both Ahmedabad and the state capital, Gandhinagar.
Trials conducted between GNLU station and GIFT CITY link on a stretch of 5.4 km. Train trials between Narendra Modi stadium and Sector One Gandhinagar have been ongoing since February end, says a GMRC spokesperson.
After completion of the trial runs, the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety will conduct a safety audit, and after his approval, it is planned to start the metro rail services in May-June.
The 28.25-km second phase is the expansion of the first phase of Ahmedabad metro and has 22 stations.
It commences at the Narendra Modi cricket stadium at Motera, the endpoint of Phase I, and extends northward for 22.80 kilometres, terminating at Mahatma Mandir (venue of Vibrant Gujarat summit) in Gandhinagar.
