The three-day ‘Tamil Thembu’ Kabaddi Tournament finale was held at Isha on Sunday with Gnana Sudar from Nallur Vayal village winning the champion title in both the male and female categories.
The tournament was the part of the week-long Tamil Mann Thiruvizha named ‘Tamil Thembu’ celebrating the culture, heritage, sports, medicine and other aspects of Tamil culture.
Gnana Sudar emerged champions after defeating Bluestar and Sindhi Vidyalaya team in the men’s and women’s category.
The riveting matches kept the audience gripped to their seats with the male finale ending at slender winning margin of 27-24. In a closely contested match, fortunes kept rolling between the Gnana Sudar and Bluestar with only the last few raids and blocks sealing the fate of the match.
Seventeen teams in the men’s category and seven teams in the women’s category competed in the tournament organized in association with the Coimbatore Amateur Kabaddi Association.
‘Forest King’ and ‘Agni Suragugal’ from Narasipuram village came third in the men’s and women’s categories respectively. The closely-fought competition culminated with Isha Brahmacharis felicitating the winners with victory trophy and prize money.
