CHENNAI, JULY 18
Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research organised a seminar on ‘Go with the Gut’ on Wednesday. It was inaugurated by Dr. Palaniappan Manickam (Dr. Pal), Consultant Gastroenterologist, USA.
- Intake of fibre rich food can cure leaky gut.
- Our diet should be rich in whole foods, low in ultra processed foods, and increased exposure to non-pathogenic microbes
- Your gut is your second brain and treating it with care is the mind-body wellness
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Palaniappan Manickam said, “Leaky gut is required to absorb the nutrients from our food. But too much of leakiness may allow toxins, bacteria and undigested particles to bloodstream. This may cause constipation, bloating and abdominal pain. Intake of fibre rich food can cure leaky gut. We have to take 25 grams of fibre per day. One of the most important environments that improves this good gut bacteria is your food. Our diet should be rich in whole foods, low in ultra processed foods, and increased exposure to non-pathogenic microbes.”
Dr. Pal stressed the importance of mysteries of gut health, the gut-brain axis, and how our lifestyles are silently messing with our microbes. Your gut is your second brain and treating it with care is the mind-body wellness. From mood swings to mental clarity, immunity to inflammation, everything is tied to what’s happening in your belly, he added.
The Seminar was organised by the Department of Mind-Body Medicine and Lifestyle Sciences and the Dept. of Clinical Nutrition. More than 500 students, faculty members and staff participated in this event.
