Vice-President of Bharatiya Janata Party Gujarat unit and former state Home Minister Gordhanbhai Zadfia felicitated Sarpanch of Pingdi village in Panchmahal district for motivating over 75,000 people to register for organ donation in a period of just nine months.
Speaking at the felicitation function on PM Modi’s birthday, September 17, Gordhanbhai Zadfia, said, “Vijaysinh Solanki , Sarpanch of Pingdi village in Panchmahal district and former taluka-district panchayat member, has done a great service to mankind by motivating over 75,000 people to register for organ donation in a period of nine months. Organ donation of one person can save eight lives. I urge all to emulate Vijaysinh Solanki and encourage others to pledge their organs. This will not only reduce the waiting period of patients for suitable organs and save many a lives.”
When asked what induced to him to start this initiative, Vijaysinh Solanki told navjeevanexpress.com, “My nephew had met with an accident and we got him admitted at Sterling Hospital in Vadodara for treatment. Despite the best efforts of the doctors, he could not be saved. At the time the doctors have advised us to donate his organs. Owing to our lack of knowledge we ignored their advise. Later on we realised our blunder and then started this organ donation awareness campaign. So far we were able to register over 75,000 people to pledge their organs. This is our tribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 72nd birthday.”
In his acceptance speech, Vijaysinh Solanki said, “Till now people were afraid of donating blood and after tireless efforts of the government, now common people are ready to donate blood. Given this situation, organ donation was a completely new subject for me.Iit was a big challenge to remove the misconceptions associated with organ donation especially among the rural people and make them participate in saving the life of another needy person by donating their organs. However, I am happy that a large number of people have joined me in this campaign and contributed immensely to this great cause.”
On the occasion of the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have given him a special gift with 75,000 registrations. About nine months ago I started registering people for organ donation and today we have achieved a significant milestone. I am confident that in the future we will reach more people and spread more awareness about organ donation among the general public, added Solanki.
A large number of people across India and the world die every year while waiting for an organ from a donor for organ transplant. Our country is progressing very fast in the field of medical science and now treatment of many complex diseases, including organ transplantation is now possible in every major city of our country.
However, in the event that important organs like kidney, liver stop working, the list of patients waiting for a donor keeps getting longer and the number of donors is very less due to lack of awareness. As a result, the patient dies despite the chances of saving it. In this situation, various campaigns have been launched by the government as well as private organizations and individuals to make people aware about organ donation.
