Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday inaugurated SAKSHAM 2020 – a month-long mass awareness campaign on oil and gas conservation here on Tuesday, an IOC release said.
Arup Sinha, Executive Director (Regional Services), Indian Oil & Regional Level Co-ordinator for Oil Industry, Southern Region; P Jayadevan, Executive Director & State Head– Indian Oil & State Level Coordinator for Oil Industry, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry; S P Selvam, Director, Chief Regional Coordinator, PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) – Southern Region; Inderjit Singh, Head (Retail), South – BPCL; V S Chakravarthi, General Manager-LPG, South Zone, HPCL;
and M K Biswas, Chief Zonal General Manager, GAIL were present on the occasion.
Under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG), oil and gas conservation mass campaign is being observed from 16th January 16 to February 15 every year by the PCRA and the oil industry, to create awareness on efficient use of petroleum products in the minds of consuming public.
Various activities involving educational institutions, housewives, a sector like transport, industry, agriculture have been planned to bring about renewed awareness on the theme of Oil & Gas conservation.
Fuel conservation-themed cycle rallies are planned to emphasize the masses on the need for a cycle for better health, environment and fuel conservation. Saksham Cycle Day has been conducted on January 19, 2020, in 200 cities across the country wherein participants from cycle clubs, environmentalists, NGOs, school/ college students, the public took part with great zeal. Similarly, the walkathon will be orgnaised on February 2 in more than 200 cities across the country to create awareness on oil conservation and health as well.
In Tamil Nadu, Saksham Cycle Rallies were conducted at Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Chennai, Tirupur, Puducherry, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Erode, Vellore, Tirunelveli, Avadi (Chennai), Tuticorin, Nagercoil, and Dindigul on January 19, 2020.
“Fuel Efficient Driving Contest” for car owners will be held at various cities to promote fuel-efficient driving. Debate competitions, group talks, Graffiti/wall Painting, Workshops on the theme of oil and gas conservation would be conducted among various school and college students across Tamil Nadu, the release added.
Seminars and workshops on conservation on transport, domestic, agriculture and industry sectors would be organized for all segments of people for creating awareness and imparting training.
PCRA and other oil companies would conduct various competitions across schools of Tamil Nadu for inculcating the habit of fuel conservation among the students.
