AHMEDABAD, APRIL 14
A total of 148 exclusive hemodialysis machines have been installed on Tuesday by the Government of Gujarat at COVID-19 isolation wards across the state to provide dialysis care to renal failure patients infected due to coronavirus, says a Kidney Hospital release.
The machines successfully installed in COVID-19 wards at Ahmedabad-96, Vadodara-20, Surat-16, and Rajkot-16 for the exclusive use of such infected patients and are ready for use condition. The task to assemble and install these newly purchased machines by the state government was assigned to the Institute of Kidney Diseases & Research Centre (IKDRC). In a record number of just two days, IKDRC assembled and installed these hemodialysis machines with RO plants along with requisite paraphernalia at four different locations in the state.
“Installation of these 148 machines, including 96 in Ahmedabad, is timely and of great help for the patients who suffer from existing chronic kidney failure diseases and may get referred to COVID-19 isolation wards due to infection,” said Dr Vineet Mishra, Director IKDRC.
IKDRC, popularly known as ‘Kidney Hospital’, is the first organization in the country to provide world-class dialysis services as a government body. It also runs the biggest chain of dialysis centres under the ‘Gujarat Dialysis Programme’ – a government of Gujarat & IKDRC initiative, in India with 46 dialysis units in the state with 447 dialysis machines.
“We are thankful to the state government for showing confidence in IKDRC competence to complete this huge task within a tight deadline,” said Dr Mishra adding that experience and expertise in running GDP helped take up the challenge.
