A person was shot dead and an arson attack ensued on Friday after a clash broke out between two communities in Akbarpur village of Anand district in Gujarat.
The violence was triggered when two groups started pelting stones after the Jumma Namaz in a local mosque in Akbarpur village.
Police resorted to tear gas shelling and also opened fire in the air to control the mob.
Meanwhile, additional police deployment was made in the region.
“The two groups pelted stones at each other. Police used rubber bullets and lathi-charge to disperse them. The situation has been brought under control,” Reema Munshi, Deputy SP, said.
