CHENNAI, JAN 14
Nearly after a few days of Group IV examination scam surfaced, the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission started an enquiry with over 40 toppers who had appeared for the examination from Rameshwaram and Keelakkarai in Ramanathapuram district.
The enquiry committee had apparently questioned the candidates from the outside Ramanathapuram district, why they opt for Rameshwaram and Keelakarai examination centres. The top rankers are hailing from other than Ramanathapuram district but opted for the two particular centres.
Candidates who had turned up for the enquiry closed their faces to avoid media attention. A candidate hailing from Chennai said she chose Ramanathapuram centre, as the dates coincides with the death ceremony of her child, who died few months ago. Similarly, everyone has their own reason.
More than 13 lakh candidates appeared for the group IV exam conducted by the TNPSC at more than 5,500 centres across the state on September 1, 2019. The results were announced on November 12 last year, which was the shortest time taken by TNPSC to announce the results of the group IV exam.
Among the top 100 candidates, 35 were from two centres, raising suspicion on exam malpractice. TNPSC, while announcing that a detailed enquiry would be conducted into the allegations, acknowledged that of 57 candidates shortlisted from Rameshwaram and Keelakkarai centres, 40 were from other districts.
