In a major move to modernize analytics and scouting of football players in the State, the Gujarat State Football Association (GSFA) has pioneered a data-driven Sports Intelligence initiative during Season 3 of the Gujarat Super League (GSL). Spearheaded in collaboration with Germany-based Bosch-Evoco Sports Intelligence, the initiative introduced high-precision video analytics, behavioural performance tracking, and expert-validated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify and nurture grassroots football talent. GSL Season-3 matches were played in Eka Arena Transstadia, Ahmedabad in September 2026.
The project marks the first global debut of Bosch’s Evoco Sports Intelligence framework in football talent assessment. Under the initiative of GSFA, the project reflected a strategic transition from conventional scouting methods—which rely mostly on match results and subjective observation—toward a holistic, evidence-led framework.
During GSL Season 3, the initiative analysed all 16 matches involving 133 players belonging to six franchise teams: Saurashtra Spartans, Vadodara Warriors, Gandhinagar Giants, Ahmedabad Avengers, Surat Strikers, and Karnavati Knights.
Using dynamic video tracking validated by international sports scientists—including Prof. Dr. Jan Mayer, Sports Scientist and former CEO of TSG Hoffenheim—the Evoco system evaluated players across physical, technical, cognitive, behavioural, and developmental dimensions.
The system recorded over 1,719 KPI observations across 133 detailed player profiles, measuring key metrics including (i) Performance under Pressure (PuP): Evaluating tactical decision-making and composure in high-stress game scenarios; (ii) Error Recovery Time (ERT): Assessing behavioural resilience and emotional responses following on-field mistakes and (iii) Direct Contests: Measuring technical and physical effectiveness during one-on-one opposition battles.
A primary focus of GSFA’s initiative was addressing the limitations of traditional scoreboard-driven scouting. The Sports Intelligence data revealed that team standings do not always reflect individual player excellence. For example, while the Saurashtra Spartans won the tournament title, individual performance analysis revealed that the Vadodara Warriors posted a higher overall performance success rate of 66.3% compared to Saurashtra’s 63.1%. The metrics allowed GSFA to identify high-performing players on lower-ranked teams whose individual contributions had previously gone unnoticed.
The most immediate milestone of GSFA’s initiative is the selection of two Under-20 players for advanced training at a club in Germany. Arihant Rajpurohit of Gandhinagar Giants ranked top among Under-20 players with an overall success rate of 82.4%, a 31.59 Stability Index, and an 87.5% success rate in direct duel contests. Ashish Rana of Saurashtra Spartans demonstrated match-to-match consistency with a 70% overall success rate, a 46.4 Stability Index, and positive contributions across five out of six observed matches. Arrangements and operational logistics for their training in Germany are currently being finalized.
Through this partnership, GSFA has established a benchmark for modern sports administration in India. Shri Kaushik Moulik, the renowned football philosopher, played an active role in bringing GSFA and Bosch-Evoco on one platform. The GSFA and Bosch-Evoco project demonstrated how data-driven intelligence can enhance grass-roots scouting, ensuring promising players receive targeted coaching and international exposure regardless of match outcomes.
