Gujarat’s COVID-19 tally increased to 2,29,913 on Tuesday with the addition of 1,110 new cases, while more than 1,200 patients recovered from the infection, the state health department said.
Eleven fresh fatalities pushed the state’s COVID-19 death toll to 4,193, it said.
Meanwhile, P G Jyotikar, 86, Dalit historian succumbed to COVID-19 in Ahmedabad.
The number of recovered cases increased to 2,12,839 with 1,236 more patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day, the department said in a release.
With this, the coronavirus recovery rate in Gujarat improved to 92.57 percent.
There are now 12,881 active cases, of which the condition of 61 patients is critical, said the department.
Ahmedabad recorded 239 new cases, followed by Surat at 167, Vadodara 143 and Rajkot 124.
Among other districts, Gandhinagar recorded 51 cases, Mehsana 44, Kutch 35, Jamnagar 33, Amreli, Kheda and Junagadh 23 each, Bharuch and Panchmahal 22 each, Dahod 19, Banaskantha and Surendranagar 14 each, Sabarkantha 13 and Bhavnagar 12.
Ahmedabad recorded eight fatalities, Surat two and Mehsana one, said the department.
As many as 54,883 tests were conducted for the virus on Tuesday, taking the total samples examined so far to 87,80,266.
The Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli has registered 3,327 COVID-19 cases so far, while the recoveries stood at 3,309, officials said.
The adjoining UT has 16 active cases as on date and has reported two COVID-19 fatalities so far, they said.

Ahmedabad dist reports 239 new COVID-19 cases, 8 deaths
Ahmedabad reported 239 new COVID-19 cases, the highest for a district in Gujarat on Tuesday, taking its tally to 54,447, the state health department said.
With eight fresh deaths, fatalities in the district rose to 2,188, it said.
Recoveries equalled new cases with 239 more patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day, the department said in a release.
This took the number of recovered cases to 49,264.
Ahmedabad city recorded 232 new cases and 228 recoveries, while the rural parts of the district reported seven fresh infections and 11 discharges.
The city’s western parts continued to report the highest number of cases.
The number of active cases in the north-west zone was the highest at 481, followed by the west zone at 444 and south-west zone at 418 cases, said the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
The number of micro containment areas in the city further reduced to 58 after 17 such areas were removed and two new localities added to the list, the AMC said.
The corporation said it has reduced the cost of treatment in COVID-19 designated private hospitals for patients referred by the civic body.
The AMC said it will gradually reduce the number of such hospitals for treatment of COVID-19 patients following a representation made by an association of private hospitals.
Surat sees 167 COVID-19 cases, 2 deaths; 201 recover
Surat recorded 167 COVID-19 cases and two deaths on Tuesday, taking the infection tally to 46,690 and toll to 1,108, while 201 people were discharged during the day, an official said.
Surat city accounted for 141 of the new cases and 166 of the people who recovered, giving it a recovery rate of 95.18 per cent, as 33,198 people have been discharged so far, the official said.
“Currently, 321 patients are hospitalised, including 108 in civil hospital and SMIMER where bed occupancy rates are 2.74 per cent and 5.72 per cent respectively. The number of people quarantined in the city stands at 13,885,” the Surat municipal corporation official said.
In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka leads with 2,416 cases, which includes 91 deaths, followed by Choryasi with 2,329.
So far, the rural part of the district has recorded 283 deaths.
