Gujarat which has carved a distinct identity on the global stage as a role model of development under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has once again demonstrated its economic strength. As per the latest official data released by the Ministry of Finance, the state’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection soared to an all-time high of ₹14,970 crore in April 2025, registering a 13% year-on-year growth. The national average was 12.6 percent. This reflects not only the robust economic momentum in the state but also highlights the effectiveness of the Gujarat Government’s business-friendly policies and programmes, alongside the state’s substantial contribution to India’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Nationally, Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections soared to a record high in April, reaching Rs 2.37 lakh crore, according to official data released on Wednesday. This represents a 12.6% rise compared to the same month last year and marks the highest monthly collection since the GST’s inception in 2017. The robust performance in April follows steadily increasing revenues in recent months, indicative of strengthening domestic consumption and compliance efforts.

Commenting on the GST numbers, FM Nirmala Sitharaman said: “Gross GST collections for April 2025 stood at ₹2.36 lakh crore, marking a 12.6% increase over the gross collection of ₹2.10 lakh crore in April 2024. Net GST collections for the April 2025 reached ₹2.09 lakh crore, reflecting a 9.1% growth compared to the net collection of ₹1.92 lakh crore in April 2024. The figures showcase the resilience of the Indian economy and the effectiveness of cooperative federalism.”

Gujarat registers record GST collection of ₹14,970 crore
In April 2025, Gujarat recorded a Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection of ₹14,970 crore, marking a 13% growth over ₹13,301 crore collected in April 2024. With this, Gujarat ranked third in GST collections nationwide, following Maharashtra (₹41,645 crore) and Karnataka (₹17,815 crore). However, when it comes to growth rate, Gujarat maintained a steady 13% year-on-year increase, while Maharashtra’s growth slowed to 11% in April 2025 from 13% in the same month last year. Furthermore, Gujarat’s total GST revenue for the financial year 2024–25 reached ₹73,281 crore, registering a strong 14% rise compared to ₹64,133 crore in 2023–24.
Gujarat leads the way in GST collection performance
With a record GST collection of ₹14,970 crore in April 2025, Gujarat has outperformed several major states, including Tamil Nadu (₹13,831 crore), Uttar Pradesh (₹13,600 crore), Haryana (₹14,057 crore), West Bengal (₹8,188 crore), Rajasthan (₹6,228 crore), Madhya Pradesh (₹5,302 crore), Punjab (₹3,104 crore), and Bihar (₹2,290 crore). Among smaller states and union territories, Arunachal Pradesh reported a 66% growth in GST collection, followed by Meghalaya at 50% and Nagaland at 42%. Lakshadweep recorded an exceptional 287% rise. At the national level, the Government of India registered a record GST revenue of ₹2,36,716 crore in April 2025, reflecting a 12.6% year-on-year growth. Gujarat’s 13% growth in GST collection thus stands above the national average.

GST collection has become a key indicator of the country’s economic health, making a substantial contribution to government revenue. Gujarat has set a new record in GST revenue collection, driven by robust economic activities, including increased domestic consumption and production, along with industry-friendly policies, rapid improvements in the ease of doing business, and an efficient tax collection mechanism. This reflects Gujarat’s unwavering commitment to advancing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat.
