AHMEDABAD, JULY 25
Gujarat on Saturday reported the highest single-day spike of 1,081 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count to 54,712 while 22 more patients died, including 11 in Surat, the state health department said.
The death toll in the state now stands at 2,305.

A total of 782 patients were discharged, raising the number of recovered cases in the state to 39,612, it said.
Meanwhile, Radhanpur Congress MLA Raghubhai Desai was reported corona positice, sources said.
Surat continues to report the highest number of new cases in the state. On Saturday, it added 276 more patients, taking the count to 11,969.
Ahmedabad added 180 new cases, taking the tally to 25,529. With four more patients succumbing to the infection, the death toll rose to 1,572.
Surat has become the second-worst affected district in the state after Ahmedabad, the department said.
Among other districts, Vadodara reported two deaths, while Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, Junagadh, Kutch, and Rajkot reported one death each.
Elsewhere, Vadodara reported 94 new cases, followed by Rajkot (65), Bhavnagar (41), Junagadh (37), Banaskantha (34), Gandhinagar and Surendranagar 29 each, Bharuch, Dahod and Mehsana 25 each, Gir Somnath and Jamnagar 23 each, Patan 21, Kutch and Valsad 19 each, Panchmahal (18), Narmada (12), Kheda (11). Anand, Mahisagar, Morbi, and Sabarkantha reported 10 cases each.
With 13,944 samples being tested in the last 24 hours, the total count reached 6,20,662, which comes to 214.52 tests per day per million population, the department said.
Gujarat now figures 11th in terms of the number of cases reported during the day in the country.

276 cases, 11 deaths in Surat, case count nears 12k
The number of coronavirus cases in Surat in Gujarat touched 11,969 with 276 people testing positive in the district on Saturday, officials said.
Eleven coronavirus patients died during the day, taking the death toll in the district to 532, they added.
The city again recorded the highest one-day spike in cases in the state.
181 new cases were found in Surat city, including 43 in Rander zone and 23 in Katargam, while 95 were from rural parts of the district, state health department officials added.
As per the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) data, the city has recorded 9,729 coronavirus cases so far with Katargam accounting for 2,187 of them. The death toll in the city due to the pandemic stands at 449.
167 patients – 112 from city limits and 55 from rural areas — were discharged from hospitals upon recovery during the day.
A total of 17,660 people have been quarantined, SMC officials said.
Amid the rising number of cases, the state government on Saturday announced the cancellation of private and public transport bus services to and from Surat for 10 days starting Monday, an official release said.
However, private vehicles and goods carriers will be allowed to ply during this period.

Ahmedabad tally rises by 180 to 25,529; 170 recover
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district in Gujarat mounted by 180 to 25,529 on Saturday, state health department said.
With four more patients succumbing to the infection, the death toll went up to 1,572.

A total of 170 people were discharged in the day, taking the count of recovered cases in the district to 20,203, an official release said.
Out of 180 new cases, 162 were reported from Ahmedabad city and the rest 18 from rural areas, it stated.
All four deaths were reported from the city areas, the release added.

Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has allowed poor people with symptoms to undergo a highly-reliable Thorax test at private laboratories for COVID-19 diagnosis free of cost on submission of a prescription form OPDs of urban centres.
The AMC has further raised the number of micro containment areas in the city to 225.
The number of COVID-19 cases in rural Ahmedabad reached 1,177 on Saturday. Of them, a total of 1,016 patients have been discharged, including 21 during the day.
