AHMEDABAD/NEW DELHI/LUCKNOW, NOV 17
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will head to poll-bound Gujarat this weekend and is expected to participate in at least eight programmes crisscrossing the state from Saurashtra to Surat. The highlight of PM Modi’s tour is his visit to the famous Somnath Temple on November 20. The Prime Minister is also the chairman of the Somnath Temple Trust.
On November 19 evening after landing in Gujarat the Prime Minister will address a rally in Valsad.
- Nadda, union ministers, CMs to address 89 BJP rallies on Friday
- Adityanath will address three election rallies in Morbi, Bharuch and Surat
- Samyukt Kisan Morcha to campaign against BJP
On November 20, after visiting the Somnath Temple, he is scheduled to address four rallies in the Saurashtra region. Venues have been finalised at Veraval, Dhorarji, Amreli and Botad.
Incidentally, in the last assembly elections, the BJP was not able to win a single seat in these assembly constituencies in Saurashtra. The BJP won the state polls but wasn’t able to breach this bastion that has traditionally voted for Congress.
On Day 3, PM Modi will hold three rallies in Surendranagar, Bharuch and Navsari.
While Bharuch was the constituency of the former Congress tall man Ahmed Patel in the past, the BJP state president CR Patil who hails from Navsari has been winning this Lok Sabha seat with huge margins.
Incidentally, Congress Lok Sabha MP Rahul Gandhi is also expected to visit Navsari on November 21, the same day that PM Modi is expected to be in Navsari.
PM Modi, who hails from Gujarat, is also expected to have a closed-door meeting with the state leaders during his stay here to further boost the party in the western state.
In Gujarat, the BJP party has been in power for the last 27 years with Narendra Modi being the longest-serving chief minister of the state.
This time the party under the leadership of Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and CR Patil is aiming to fetch more than 140 seats.
The state has been a BJP stronghold for long and the party confident of coming back and forming the government for the seventh term.

Senior BJP leaders, including its national president J P Nadda besides Union ministers and chief ministers, are expected to address public meetings on Friday in the 89 Gujarat assembly constituencies going to the polls in the first phase of elections on December 1.
With the BJP intensifying its campaign, party sources said Nadda will hold rallies in three places — Navsari, Ankleshwar and Rajkot East — while Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Narendra Singh Tomar and Anurag Singh Thakur will speak at three, four and four meetings, respectively.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his Madhya Pradesh counterpart Shivraj Singh Chouhan will address three and four rallies, respectively.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union ministers V K Singh and Faggan Singh Kulaste are among other party leaders who will be addressing rallies, they said.
Saurashtra, Kutch and south Gujarat are the regions going to the polls in the first phase while 93 seats in north and central parts of the state will have polls on December 5.
Samyukt Kisan Morcha to campaign against BJP
The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has decided to campaign against the BJP in Gujarat.
SKM leaders told presspersons in New Delhi on Thursday that though none of them will contest polls, they will issue an appeal to voters urging them to questions political parties. The SKM has also decided to launch a national campaign on the second anniversary of the farmers’ protests urging the Centre to implement all the promises it made before withdrawing its stir last year.
Addressing a press conference, SKM leader and All India Kisan Sabha general secretary Hannan Mollah said the SKM will campaign against the BJP in Gujarat.
“In Gujarat, SKM constituents will not take part in the polls. But we will campaign against the BJP in the polls. We will appeal to the voters to ask political parties about their stand on debt waiver and the SKM. If the response is positive, then vote for that party. We will urge the people to ask political parties about Minimum Support Price too,” Mollah said.
