Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel released a Special Cover on ‘Rann Utsav’, along with Cancellation on Sunday at a grand Cultural Program “Kachchhdo Baremas” which was organized under “Rann Utsav” festival at Dhordo village, Gujarat. On this occasion, Postmaster General of Saurashtra and Kachchh Region Krishna Kumar Yadav presented the first copy of the special cover to the Chief Minister. The special cover features a unique cancellation with a stamp depicting Kutch Embroidery.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Bhupendrabhai Patel said, “The Rann Utsav, initiated by the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Narendra bhai Modi, in 2005, has now become a global celebration. People from across the country and abroad eagerly wait for this festival. This celebration of nature, culture, art, tradition, and heritage has not only boosted the local economy but has also transformed it into a global cultural platform.”
Appreciating the special cover released by the Department of Posts on Rann Utsav, he also mentioned that Stamps and Special Covers connect a nation’s culture and heritage with other parts of the world, facilitating cultural exchange and establishing vide cultural context. While visiting various stalls at Rann Utsav showcasing handicrafts and craftsmanship, the Chief Minister also visited the India Post Stall and appreciated the Postal services. On this occasion, he was also presented with a Personalized My Stamp on Gujarat theme.
The Chief Minister said that in last Year 2023, the United Nations Organization recognized Dhordo’s vibrancy and many attractions and awarded it the prestigious title of “Best Tourism Village 2023”.
Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav said, “The special cover on ‘Rann Utsav’ has been designed as a unique symbol. It showcases the vibrant culture of Kachchh, featuring the Rann of Kachchh, the white salt desert, the Tent City, the sunset, decorated camels and musical instruments. It is recorded that the three-day festival, which was started in 2005, has today transformed into a 100-day festival in Dhordo village near Rann of Kachchh due to its popularity. The city of tents on white sand attracts tourists from all over the world due to its excitement. The Rann of Kachchh in Gujarat is famous for its white salty desert sand and is considered to be the largest salt desert in the world.”
Postmaster General Krishna Kumar Yadav said that this Special Cover is being issued as a prestigious cultural symbol because Rann Utsav is not only a tourist destination but also a celebration of the soul of Kachchh. Through this special cover, the younger generation will be able to connect with their culture and heritage. These special cover, being a part of philately bearing stamps on it, will be sent across the country and abroad, spreading the importance of the Rann Utsav to people. This will also lead to widespread promotion of tourism, both nationally and globally.
Superintendent of Post Office, Kachchh Division S. R. Mistry, informed that the Special Cover with Cancellation on ‘Rann Utsav’ will be available for sale at ₹25 from Post Offices. It can also be obtained at the special stall set up by the Department of Posts during the Rann Utsav.
