Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate ‘All Gujarat Inter Corporation T-20 Day-Night invitation Cricket Tournament’ at Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura here on Saturday evening, announced Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibha Jain.
This annual cricket fiesta is not only a stress-buster for the elected representatives and the administrative wings but also a brain-storming session to share their experiences. This tournament will see teams of mayors and municipal commissioners from the eight municipal corporations competing for cricket glory.
The five-day event is scheduled to commence on Saturday, January 27 and will end on Wednesday, January 31.
Speaking with the media, Ahmedabad Mayor Pratibha Jain said, “Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel will inaugurate ‘All Gujarat Inter Corporation T-20 Day-Night invitation Cricket Tournament’ at Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura here on Saturday at 6 pm. Eight municipal corporations – Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Gandhinagar, and Jamnagar, will be represented by teams comprising officers and political leaders. A total of 14 matches are scheduled to take place among the 16 participating teams.”
“Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation will host the participants during the match days. The AMC will also showcase its developmental activities to other seven corporation officials and elected representatives. In a nutshell, it will be a win-win for all to exchange their ideas and replicate the best ones in their towns,” Pratibha Jain added.
When asked about the prizes, she added that winners and runner-up will get trophies. After the finals, man of the series, best batsman and bowler will be rewarded with certificates and gift hampers.
Khokhra ward corporator Kamlesh Patel will lead the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation team. The team boasts 18 corporators, including former Mayor Kirit Parmar.
The Sardar Patel Stadium in Navrangpura will witness the matches between the mayors, while the Commissioners’ team clashes will unfold at the Ellisbridge ‘B’ Cricket Ground of Gujarat College.
Match schedule
January 27: Ahmedabad vs. Gandhinagar Mayor’s team at 6 pm.
January 28: Bhavnagar vs. Rajkot Mayor’s team at 5 pm.
January 29: Junagadh vs. Surat Mayor’s team at 3.30 pm, Jamnagar vs. Vadodara team at 7 pm.
The winners from these matches will compete in the semi-finals on January 30, leading to the grand finale on January 31 at 7 pm.
For the Commissioners’ teams at Gujarat College’s Ellisbridge ‘B’ Ground:
January 28: Ahmedabad vs. Gandhinagar Commissioners team at 9 am, Bhavnagar vs. Rajkot team at noon.
January 29: Surat vs. Junagadh Commissioners team at 9 am, Jamnagar vs. Vadodara team at noon.
The semi-finals for Commissioners’ teams will take place on January 30, followed by the final showdown on January 31 at 3.30 pm.
