With a highest one-day spike of 1,026, around 300 of them from Surat district, coronavirus cases in Gujarat crossed the 50,000-mark on Tuesday, the health department said.

While the case tally reached 50,465, the death toll due to the pandemic rose to 2,201 with 34 patients succumbing, it said.
744 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospitals in the state on Tuesday, hence the recovered cases increased to 36,403.
Surat district reported 298 new cases, the highest in the state, followed by Ahmedabad at 199.

The total COVID-19 cases in Surat are now 10,840 while Ahmedabad has reported 24,767 cases so far.
Vadodara on Tuesday reported 75 new cases and Rajkot 58.
Among other districts, Dahod reported 39 new cases, Bhavnagar 38, Gandhinagar 31, Banaskantha 25, Surendranagar 21, Patan 20, Narmada 19, Gir Somnath and Mehsana 18 each, Navsari and Panchmahal 17, Bharuch 16, Kheda 14, Junagadh 12, Valsad 13, Kutch nine, Anand and Botad eight, Amreli seven.
Of 34 deaths during the day, the highest 21 were reported in Surat, taking the district”s toll to 467.
Ahmedabad reported the death of six COVID-19 patients, raising its toll to 1,557.
Vadodara reported two deaths, while Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath, Jamnagar, Kutch, and Patan reported one fatality each, the health department’s release said.
The number of recovered cases in Ahmedabad rose to 19,413 and that in Surat rose to 6,961 with 205 and 173 patients getting discharged, respectively.
Gujarat now has 11,861 active coronavirus cases. The condition of 82 patients is critical, the release said.
4,16,520 persons have been quarantined in the state – 2,701 persons in quarantine centres and 4,13,819 at home.
Surat records 298 new cases; 21 die
Surat reported 298 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, taking the tally to 10,840, while 21 more patients died, the highest in Gujarat, the state health department said.
The district reported the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in the state on Tuesday at 21, taking the toll to 467, it said.
Out of the 744 new cases reported from across Gujarat, Surat alone accounted for 298.
The district reported 21 out of the 34 deaths in the state on Tuesday, the department said in a release.
For the last several days, Surat has overtaken Ahmedabad in both the number of daily cases and fatalities.
Surat city reported 225 and rural parts recorded 73 new infections.
Also, the city under Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) limits reported 14 out of the 21 deaths, with seven being recorded from the district”s panchayat areas, the release said.
Rander zone in Surat reported the highest number of 47 cases, while Katargam reported 34 infections. So far, Katargam has reported the highest number of cases in the city at 2,096.
The SMC said it has carried out a health survey of over 10 lakh population, while 13,452 persons have been quarantined.
With several diamond workers getting infected with COVID-19, diamond units have voluntarily downed their shutters till July 31 to curb the infection spread.

Ahmedabad records 199 new cases; 6 die
Ahmedabad reported 199 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, taking its tally to 24,767, while more than 200 people recovered from the infection, the Gujarat health department said.
With six new fatalities, the COVID-19 death toll in the district rose to 1,557, it said.

With 205 patients getting discharged from hospitals, the number of recovered people rose to 19,413, the health department said in a release.
Ahmedabad city recorded 187 new cases, while rural parts of the district reported 12 infections, it said.
Five of the fatalities were from the city and one from a rural area, the department said.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said the number of recovered cases improved to 79.9 percent of total infections in the city.
The death toll remained at 6.4 percent of the total cases, as per an AMC bulletin issued on Tuesday afternoon.
The city’s western zone remained the worst-affected by COVID-19, accounting for 18 percent of the total active cases, followed by north-west zone at 15.5 percent and south-west zone at 15.3 percent.
With 8.7 percent share, the central zone has the lowest active coronavirus cases in the city, it said.
The city civic body revised the number of micro-containment areas in Ahmedabad, taking the total number of such zones to 211 as on Tuesday.
With 12 new cases, the COVID-19 tally in rural parts of the district rose to 1,106, of which 946, or 86 percent, have been discharged.
