The tally of coronavirus cases in Gujarat rose to 1,70,053 with the addition of 980 new patients on Wednesday, while recoveries continued to outstrip fresh infections with 1,107 more people getting discharged, the state health department said.

The state’s recovery rate improved to 89.97 percent with 1,107 COVID-19 patients getting discharged from hospitals during the day, it said.
With this, the number of recovered cases in the state rose to 1,52,995, the health department said.
As many as six more COVID-19 patients died in the state, pushing the toll to 3,704, said the department in a release.
There are a total of 13,354 active cases in the state as of the date of which 63 patients are on ventilators, it said.
Surat reported the highest number of 227 new COVID-19 cases followed by Ahmedabad at 186 cases, Vadodara 113, and Rajkot at 91.
Among other districts, Gandhinagar reported 39 new cases, Mehsana 32, Jamnagar and Banaskantha 30 each, Junagadh 22, Amreli 20, Patan 18, Sabarkantha 17, Bhavnagar and Surendranagar 16 each, Bharuch and Panchmahal 15 each, Kutch 14 and Anand 10, among others.

Ahmedabad reported three deaths, Surat two and Rajkot one.
In the Union Territory of Daman, Diu, and Dadra, and Nagar Haveli, the COVID-19 tally rose to 3,212 with six new cases, one in Daman and five in DNH.
Three patients recovered in the UT on Wednesday, raising the number of discharged cases to 3,159, officials said.
As many as 51,912 tests were conducted for coronavirus in the state in the last 24 hours at a rate of 798.65 tests per day per million population, taking the number of samples tested so far to 58,97,627, the release said.

Ahmedabad logs 186 new cases; tally at 41,984
With the addition of 186 new COVID-19 cases, the count of infections in Ahmedabad district rose to 41,984 on Wednesday, an official from the health department said.
Apart from this, the deaths of three patients took the toll to 1,912, the official said.
As many as 214 patients recovered from the infection during the day in Ahmedabad city, while 13 recovered in the rural parts of the district, he said.
Of the fresh cases, 161 were reported from the city and 25 from rural areas, it was stated.
According to officials, rural Ahmedabad has achieved a recovery rate of 97 percent, as 2,819 patients have been discharged from hospitals so far, the official said.
A total of 2,922 cases and 59 deaths have been reported from rural areas, they said.
As per the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, the city’s west zone has 503 active cases as on date, which is the highest, followed by the north-west zone with 495 cases and the south-west zone with 489.
The central zone has the lowest number of infections with 323 cases, the AMC said.
The bed occupancy rate in the city’s private hospitals requisitioned by the AMC for the treatment of coronavirus patients stands at 54.2 percent, the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said.
Of 2,056 beds at 70 such hospitals, 1,114 are occupied and 82 out of 162 beds in ICUs with ventilators are occupied, it said.
In isolation wards, 438 beds are occupied and 398 available, and in ICUs without ventilators, 173 beds are occupied and 152 available.

Surat district reports 227 COVID-19 cases, 257 recoveries
The number of coronavirus cases in Surat rose to 35,263 with the addition of 227 new patients on Wednesday, the highest for a district in Gujarat, the state health department said.
The COVID-19 fatalities in Surat rose to 1,011 with two more patients succumbing to the infection, said the health department in a release.
Also, 257 COVID-19 patients were discharged in the south Gujarat district following recovery, it said.
Both the city and rural parts of the Surat district reported more recovered cases on Wednesday than new infections.
While the city reported 163 new cases and 192 recoveries, rural Surat registered 64 fresh infections and 65 discharges, the release said.
The city’s recovery rate stands at 92.9 percent, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said, adding a total of 24,440 patients have been discharged so far.
A total of 19,013 patients are under quarantine, while 8.58 lakh people have been surveyed in areas from where new cases had been reported, said the civic body.
The city’s Athwa locality reported 41 new cases, the highest among nine city zones, raising its COVID-19 tally to 4,925. Katargam reported 24 new cases, taking its count to 4,495.
The number of COVID-19 patients admitted in various city hospitals stood at 394, of which 124 are admitted in two government hospitals, the SMC said.
In rural Surat, Kamrej has reported 1,909 coronavirus positive cases and 89 deaths so far, the highest among nine talukas in the district, officials said.
With 78 cases and just one death, Umarpada has reported the lowest number on both counts among the talukas so far, they said.
