Taking precautionary steps is the only means to curb COVID-19: DGP

Director-General of Police Shivanand Jha on Monday said that the final phase of the lockdown could prove to be very crucial. Taking precautionary steps is the only means to curb COVID-19. Police have been given specific guidelines to conduct more surveillance in the affected areas. Briefing about strict implementation of lockdown in a press conference, Jha said, “Arrangements are being made by the police to ensure that social-distance is maintained in the ration shops amidst lockdown. Tobacco shops, tea stalls, restaurants, salons cannot operate at the moment. If such shops are found to operate, legal actions will be taken against the shopkeepers and the customers. Special vigilance will be maintained for strict enforcement of lockdown and if violation is noticed, immediate legal action will be taken in addition to detainment of vehicles.”

Jha said that while the number of cases of corona infection are increasing in Ahmedabad city, some bridges have been closed, including ban on movement of people and vehicles. In such a scenario, it is necessary for the citizens to cooperate with the system and maintain social-distance. Citizens can go out every two or three days to buy essential items but not every day.
