Gujarat on Monday reported 1,056 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total count to 72,120 while 20 people died, including 8 in Surat, the state Health department said.

The cumulative number of fatalities in the state now stands at 2,674, it said.
The number of recoveries rose by 1,138 during the day to 55,276, an official release said.
Gujarat now has 14,170 active cases. The condition of 76 patients critical, it said.
At 236, Surat reported the highest number of cases in the state, it said.
Ahmedabad added 144 cases to its tally, taking the total count to 28,042. With four deaths, the toll in Ahmedabad district went up to 1,637, the release said.
Vadodara added 108 new cases in the day.
Among other districts, Rajkot reported 96 new cases, Bhavnagar 48, Amreli 42, Kutch 32, Jamnagar 31, Gir Somnath 29, Gandhinagar 26, Morbi and Porbandar 25 each, and Bharuch and Surendranagar 20 each, it said.
Among 20 deceased, two fatalities occurred in Vadodara while one death each was reported from Amreli, Bhavnagar, Mehsana, Porbandar, Rajkot and Tapi, the department said.
A total of 29,604 tests were conducted across the state in the last 24 hours, which comes at 455.44 tests per day per million.
10,17,234 samples have been tested in the state so far.
Surat records 236 new cases; 8 die, 260 recover
Surat’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 16,000-mark and rose to 16,046 with 236 new cases reported on Monday, the Gujarat health department said.
With eight more deaths, the COVID-19 fatalities rose to 695 in the south Gujarat district, it said.
Also, 260 patients were discharged, taking the number of recovered cases in the district to 12,850, the health department said.
Surat city reported 176 new cases and rural parts of the district 60. Both the city and the rural parts reported four deaths each, it said.
The number of COVID-19 cases in Surat city has risen to 12,881 with the Katargam zone reporting the highest 2,572 cases followed by Varachha-A zone at 1,683.
The city civic body said it has so far surveyed 7.64 lakh people for coronavirus involving 2,473 teams.
As many as 29,620 people are quarantined, it said.
In rural Surat, Kamrej taluka has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases so far at 731, followed by Choryasi at 475 and Palsana at 474.
The number of people succumbing to COVID-19 in the city area under the municipal corporation limit rose to 549. In the rural parts, the death toll stood at 146, officials said.

Ahmedabad tally crosses 28,000-mark; four die
The number of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district rose by 144 to 28,042 on Monday, the Gujarat health department said.
With four deaths, the toll went up to 1,637 in the district, it said.
At the same time, 113 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 22,612, an official release said.
133 of the 144 new cases were reported from Ahmedabad city while 11 patients were found in rural areas, it said, adding that all four fatalities occurred in the city municipal corporation limits.
The four fatalities in the district were in sync with the trend of fewer than 10 deaths being reported per day since July 4.
On July 15 and August 2, the district had reported two fatalities.
The number of 133 new cases reported in Ahmedabad city in the day is the lowest since July 3, when the daily cases had dropped below 200, the department said.
With 11 new cases, the number of confirmed cases in rural Ahmedabad rose to 1,431, out of which 1,264 patients, or 88 per cent have been discharged while 58 others have succumbed to the virus.
A total of 107 cases are active, the district panchayat said.
